I have been working at Bank of America full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Work-life balance is nice, I get to pick up my kids from school most days and 3 or 4 weeks of paid vacation has been nice. Benefits are hard to compete with, I've looked elsewhere but they keep me here. Tuition reimbursement, health care, child-care reimbursement, etc.

    Cons

Personnel turnover in branch gets frustrating. Various managers, since it is nearly impossible to get fired there are people who get moved up simply because they've been in their current role for so long. They have no business being in management.

I worked at Bank of America full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Professional environment, challenging work, manager allowed us the flexibility to work with and assist customers and teammates. Good benefits. A wide range of good courses available on the internal training site which could be used for self improvement. Good teamwork.

    Cons

The system was cumbersome and could be very frustrating to use; a replacement system is in development.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Job training could be better; new associates need someone available to help them. It would be better if some hands-on training was available to go with all of the classroom training at onboarding.

I have been working at Bank of America full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Many opportunities in different areas. But spending time in Finance has opened more doors than others who worked at branches. The bank is much more than checking and saving accounts. Technology is constantly changing and they are always enhancing the process.

    Cons

Many positions are in cities where I would rather not live. There are limited :work from home positions. Some groups have used that excuse that they want all employees to be in the same office then layoff those who do not. Technology is constantly changing but they hire contractors to help but they don't keep them long enough to finish projects so it takes time to bring new people up to speed so there's lots of wasted time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Equal pay for equal work is still an issue in this day and age. Men still make more than women for the same job, or in some cases where the woman is doing more.

I have been working at Bank of America full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great benefits, flexible work hours, ample opportunity for learning and the ability to move between departments after one year of service. Most peers are a joy to work with. The current CEO seems to be making progress with improving the company but has his work cut out for him trying to repair the damage done by the former. There seems to be a genuine effort to make the bank a better place to work despite the current economic environment.

    Cons

Executive management is detached and separate from the mid-level managers and employees. They are mostly hired from the outside and typically last about 2 years. As a result, we're subjected to constant re-orgs and useless departmental name changes. Real organizational improvement is slow. There are a lot of inefficiencies and bureaucracy due to the many mergers and increased government regulation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More effort needs to be directed to automating the infrastructure; there are way too many disparate, yet somewhat redundant processes in place. Software development projects need to be more completely defined and realistically scoped before implementation. The politics of building fiefdoms needs to be replaced with a common corporate team spirit.
