    Cons

long working hours, being outsource staff means you have no chance in promotion or career growth, very low basic salary and no chance to compete with local banks in UAE.

    Advice to Management

your policies and strategy led to the selling of Barclays retail business to ADIB, job well done!!

    Pros

    People are friendly
    People are helpful where possible

    Cons

Reducing costs is the dominant driver of decisions. As a result ageing systems and equipment are not improved, redundancy rounds leave fewer people doing more work, high staff turnover means few people are able to explain or justify what was done in the past, obtaining approval for any expenditure is difficult, and compensation is significantly reduced.

Barclays is reducing in size so the environment is one of managing decline.

The effect of this is to increase the time and effort required on process work at the expense of seeking improvements.

    Advice to Management

Don't just accept staff turnover, find out why people are leaving and try to address their concerns.

    Pros

Barclays invests a lot in training programs for analysts, people are nice although formal

    Cons

the pay is very low, promotions are hard to come by, it seems like they are over hiring to satisfy some regulatory demands but most people are very inefficient and lack skills

    Advice to Management

invest in technology rather than dumb people

  9. Good company. Bad culture. I've never worked in a company with so much push back regarding following its own policies

    Pros

Good structure. Extremely knowledge people. Nice offices Great locations. Great resources in terms of learning on the job. Most people are willing to help.

    Cons

Compliance department run by graduates and temps who are put there to take the Abuse by those who feel they are entitled to bypass the written policies.

    Advice to Management

Put your people on notice that no one should disrespect other workers no matter how high up the ladder they are.

  10. Terrible bank to work for. Avoid if you can.

I have been working at Barclays

    Pros

The people are nice and location is fairly central. That's pretty much all I can think of. I wouldn't recommend this company.

    Cons

    1. Poor technology to get work done. Old laptops given to new employees. You don't get even the basic tools to do your job. You have to fight and hound people to get what you need and sometimes you don't even get what you need
    2. You'll spend most of your time on the phone to outsourced IT services that are not helpful that is even if you get through to them after holding on for 30 mins or more
    3. No milk or tea on most floors. If you're lucky to work in Barclaycard you might score a free coffee
    4. Poor management. They may have a vision but they lack the power to drive change and really empower employees
    5. No accountability. People want to have their say but when something goes wrong they just pass the blame to other people or pretend they don't know. Worst of all they then blame external parties when really it's an internal issue

    Advice to Management

Fix your operations. The productivity and accountability of your teams relies on good leadership to drive change and improve the working environment of your employees.

    Pros

Great team oriented environment. people are dedicated and willing to help each other and elevate the team. In my role, there were different challenges on a daily basis which motivates the employees and never lets you feel bored with a routine-based framework.

    Cons

Sometimes bureaucracy is overwhelmig and therefore a very simple issue may take quite some tim eto be resolved.
