I worked at Barclays full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Barclays is very structural with a full set of policies and procedures. It is very helpful to find everything set and clear.

    Cons

Environment is very competitive with a prejudice for grades among employees. Fluctuations of salary among same level. Barclays expansion was not well studied with defects in infrastructure.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to take small steps that are well studies.

I have been working at Barclays full-time for more than a year

    Pros

DIrect managers are extremely caring and a joy to work for. Flexibility, boss is extremely understanding of all outside factors. Work/Life Balance provides opportunity to focus on family life. Down to earth colleagues make for a collegial environment. Independence to build, own and manage processes lets you make what you want of your role.

    Cons

Very bureaucratic, it takes forever to get an answer or an approval due to countless layers and endless mixed messaging. Extremely slow pace for anything.
Compensation was flat out bad and promotion process is inconsistent. No focus improving, just a focus on cutting costs. Very volatile organization with no stability due to lots of layoffs and a revolving door of employees. Communication is lacking as folks make decisions in isolation. Directors sit with their doors closed and many colleagues ignore emails and do not return voicemails.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Identify, mitigate then eliminate the extreme bureaucracy.

I worked at Barclays full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Plenty to get involved in with good technical innovation and a friendly working environment. Performance management driven with staff reward based on performance. Good set of ethical values for a financial institution.

    Cons

Poor project management and team silos. Too much red tape and brick walls are put in your way to hinder getting the job done rather than working as an extended team.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognise the good people and practices.

I have been working at Barclays full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Excellent talent to work with and a vast array of products to sell. Working with management side by side truly helps get you involved in the banks plans as a whole and what direction they are going.

    Cons

The talent is all leaving, either voluntarily or being forced out and what is led i'm not sure will be a sustainable institution for very long.

I worked at Barclays full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good locations for offices and staff benefits are pretty standard for the banking industry; most staff are competent and pleasant to work with.

    Cons

Management are lacking in moral fibre - caring more about their own bonus than about their staff and the people around them. Minimal flexible working and offices and working practices are dated.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your staff more and give them the autonomy to address the problems without constant second guessing; invest in technology.
