I have been working at Barclays full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Working at Barclays has so many opportunities. You never really need to leave. It also has fantastic pension, annual leave, healthcare and the pay is pretty good. The bonuses are great. It is a very comfortable place to work. It is quite easy to network and move your way around. Its very 'PC' and friendly. Social scene can be varied. People are generally out of the office by 5.30pm and your work life balance is mostly respected.

    Cons

You have to play the game, rather than just be good at your job. There are so many people that you really have to work smart to stand out/avoid being a number. But everyone is kind and fair and so long as you work out how to play the game, the sky is the limit really. It can become quite stale with very little breadth to roles (i was there 6 years) but i enjoyed my time there and it has set my career up for the future - people really respect the name on your CV.

I worked at Barclays full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great development, had no experience in training delivery but was given every chance to grow and improve my skills and abilities. My managers in this area were the best I've ever had and it is a meritocracy so hard work pays off. Development plans are clear and achievable. Very nice and well equipped training venues as well. The most tech focused bank and are way ahead of the competition in most of these areas.

    Cons

Overly complicated management structure where sometimes common sense cannot prevail as too many people need to be involved in a task. Although it is changing, the company is still very "Silo'd" - communication between departments is something that needs to be improved. Training department goes through many phases of displacements and restructures. Annual compensation not very good

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Many people are quick to use regulations to justify not cooperating with what you want, there are rules in place but there should be more emphasis on what actually can be done instead of stone walling each other
