    Cons

No sense of leadership. Low employee moral.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees. Hire a person that can converse and get to know your employees so they are left feeling alienated.

I have been working at Belcan Corporation full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Flexible hours. If you are not on-site at a client's facility, your hours can be what you make them. You are salaried, but paid for every hour you work; "salaried, but paid overtime." You can be exposed to many different products and software tools. You can "test drive" a client company's internal culture before considering applying directly to them. Client companies often hire Belcan on--site employees.

    Cons

The management will not pay to train its own people; will not pay for federally mandated training (agrees to pay 1.5 hours overhead when it may take twice that long to accomplish the training - YOU have to work later to make it up); management will not pay for administrative overhead / the daily costs of doing business; the benefits are outdated and poor; the management is timid and unenlightened and is too timid to go into manufacturing its own products; executive leadership positions are occupied by former / existing client executives; leadership has abdicated responsibility for engineering quality, hiding behind the mantra of “technical excellence as defined by our clients,” blindly adopting the sometimes careless or reckless legacy practices of our clients.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wake up and smell the coffee! It's 2015, not 1977.

I have been working at Belcan Corporation full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good learning opportunities and exposure to customer companies.

    Cons

As a engineering services company that performs contract work, the pay isn't competitive with some other large companies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide opportunities for advancement and career growth or employee turnover will continue to be a problem.

I have been working at Belcan Corporation full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Belcan is a services company, and one of the services they provide is Engineering analysis. This could be CFD modeling, thermal FEA modeling, or structural FEA modeling. You work is based SOW for the work to provide with budget and schedule. Many times you know more about the work than the people you are providing the service to. The work hours are very flexible and you receive overtime straight time pay even though you are salaried.

    Cons

Since this is outsourced work, it tends not to be that cutting edge or technically challenging. Communication within the company is very poor. Engineers seem to always want to one up another, so cooperation is virtually non existent. Pay tends to be 15% less than if you work directly for the OEM. You can make some of this up by working overtime, but sometimes the company shuts this option down in lean times. Vacation is only 2 weeks, and you only get 3 sick days. There are only 6 holidays. And they don't give you the day after Thanksgiving or Christmas eve off with pay unless you work three 10 hour days that same week. Very odd policy. The leadership is a non technical group of people who just operate the company from a money making viewpoint. So technical issues can take a back seat sometimes which is frustrating for an engineer who wants to make the best designs out there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide more typical holidays and vacation. Without technical leadership having more input in the day to day operations, the company will eventually lose their technical competence reputation.
