I worked at Cargill full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Systems very tight and very well deployed. HR especially.

    Cons

cut throat wages and will employ low paid workers to do higher payed jobs with promises of better things in the future.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Say what you are going to do and do what you say you are going to do. The values are great, but not adhered to at the local level.

I have been working at Cargill as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

This company takes the time to personally grow its employees and offer a wide range of opportunities to fit every employee's interests.

    Cons

Being such a large company, it moves slowly and is very behind in the technology area and it takes a long time to get decisions made

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Work on retaining young talent!

I have been working at Cargill full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    Good benefits and good people.

    Cons

Limited IT career growth with everything outsourced now.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cost vs. quality. Hope you achieve cost reduction goals for business units but quality will suffer.

    I worked at Cargill

    Pros

    Close-knit and professional team.
Great trainers (non-dedicated position - so they are taking time out of their day to help)
Opportunity to learn a wide spectrum of skills.

    Cons

Work is very regionally dependent for such a large company. If you want to work in the corporate side, you will likely have to be okay working in MN.

I have been working at Cargill full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Size of company provides stability. Locations all over the world, so many opportunities to live where ever you want. Competitive salaries. Management that seems to care about their employees.

    Cons

The biggest hurdle, which many companies have, is change management within our company. It is a VERY difficult process and great ideas are usually dropped.

Former Employee - Team Leader In OE in Wayzata, MN (US)

I worked at Cargill full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Cargill has a lot of heart, including a company culture of warmth, belonging, spirit of service and ethics. You feel that you are part of a community that has embraced you. Within that circle of support you can have as much challenge and freedom to act as you want.

    Cons

Cargill's strengths are also its weaknesses at times. You are either "in" or "out", and the strong ties that make up the company culture also create a set of unwritten rules and an informal network of information that can be hard to decipher. You can have all the challenge you want, but make very sure you deliver exceptional results.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember to walk the talk when it comes to appreciating and including a diverse set of personalities, thinking styles and skills.

Former Employee - Production Supervisor II in Sidney, OH (US)

I worked at Cargill full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Very large organizational structure, many different business units, very diverse job opportunities. Large growth in many areas

    Cons

To many husbands/wife teams, not in same area but still with influence on jobs and projects. To many "chemical engineers" with no people skills. No movement to different business units. No flexability on people issues, not a very diverse work force.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote from site, and not always from outside plant. Do not use sites as promotions for people that have need a promotion or have done a "good job". Get a training dept established again, quit placing all other job functions on indidvual persons.
