Current Employee – been working at Clear Channel full-time

ProsA few co-workers have been great and help when they can. It's fun to meet people in the local business community and create plans that solve their marketing needs.

ConsI never get the feeling that senior management cares about me. The stress I feel everyday here is insane. Very few people feel like they have job security here. It is starting to affect other parts of my life because I am constantly worried and frustrated and feel like it is impossible to succeed. The amount of reps they churn through is ridiculous. Every department seems unwilling to work together. Not a team atmosphere at all. Unless you have established yourself in media sales and can get everything done on your own and tolerate the micromanagement and constant change of focus, don't work here.

Advice to Senior ManagementGive more help to new people and help them grow. Something needs to be done to lower the turnover and make the feeling in the room more positive.

Former Employee – worked at Clear Channel part-time for more than 3 years

ProsBeing an intern gives you the opportunity to learn about the industry and work in a fun place for college credit.

ConsThe company is literally bleeding itself dry. It keeps cutting back on employees and dispersing the work to whoever is left. If you get hired, you'll start at minimum wage and most likely never get a raise. I'd say the average full time salary pay is around $30k. Don't expect much more than that, unless you are at the top. About 80 percent of radio stations are voice tracked or syndicated. Don't expect to be a radio personality. The rate of job openings is declining and so is the pay. At least 30 people have either left or been let go in the past year, ranging from the lowest level jobs all the way up to the market manager position.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou can function with a smaller staff, but pay your employees a decent salary to do the honest days work they are performing.

ProsGreat products in the best cities

ConsCorporate - Bain Capital - controls everything and everything is a spreadsheet. They no longer care about customer service. Commission plan is the worst in the industry.

Advice to Senior ManagementRetain and recruit talented employees. Relationships are important across all departments - sales - real estate - operations.

ProsManagers will let you work on your own. I did not experience micro managing.

ConsNo communication between departments. People do not like to work as a team. It could be a great place to work but everyone is ready to step on anyone's toes to make sure they do not look bad to the upper management.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed to encourage team work and communication. Need to work with co-workers and help them to learn new roles. Need more career advancement.

Current Employee – been working at Clear Channel full-time

ProsWant to teach me their ways. And want me to succeed they way they have succeeded. So far so good

ConsOf course working as a sales rep has its cons but you either learn to work with it and manage your own future financially or you are in the wrong business.

Phoenix, AZ (US)

Former Employee – worked at Clear Channel full-time for more than 8 years

ProsYou get to work for one of the largest companies in the world. The name "Clear Channel" looks good on paper.

ConsThis was once a great company to work for....8+ years ago! It has gradually gone down hill. I wish it could be blamed on the hard economic times, which, yes has contributed to how they treat their employees, but sadly I think it's more about how the company is managed. They once cared about their employees and treated you like family. The perks were once great. Now it's about how much more responsibility they can pile on you, how many more hour you can work and how much faster you can do it all. It's an extremely stressful environment. I always got overlooked for the work and hours I put in. If they dont like you, they will make your life miserable until you leave. They never fire anyone because they dont want to deal with unemployment. The turnover is really high because no one wants to work for a company that treats their employees so poorly.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet back to what you once were or the company will go under. Start caring about your employees and treating them with dignity and respect. Or start handing out anxiety medication in your new hire packets, because they are going to need it! Otherwise, you might as well hire robots, because that is the only way the amount of work you demand of your employees will get done without stressing them out and making them constantly sick.
