Amazing Opportunity. Tremendously Grateful

I have been working at ConAgra Foods full-time for less than a year

ProsLoads of opportunities for talented and driven individuals.

ConsI wish I would have started this journey sooner.

Advice to Senior ManagementRe-organize some of the hourly pay structures, shifting toward pay-for-performance.

Great first years but became rather toxic later.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Omaha, NE (US)

I worked at ConAgra Foods full-time for more than 7 years

ProsMore dynamic in regards to I.T than you'd expect for a big established blue chip type company. You were encouraged and supported to 'be bold'. Senior management recognized that employees individually and as groups must be permitted to innovate. This started to fall apart later as things became more and more politically contaminated.

ConsQuite top heavy in the middle layers of management and all paths and definitions of success were defined by how fast you made it into management. This stifles technical excellence and created weird situations where one person might report to 3 same level managers.

Advice to Senior ManagementReduce management by about one third in all layers and foster self organizing teams that can exert their maximum energy toward building competitive products and running lean projects through quickly. Share the rewards at all levels and not just to those that made it to management.

Dynamite Work Experience

Datacenter Operator (Current Employee)
Omaha, NE (US)

I have been working at ConAgra Foods full-time for less than a year

ProsThe IT department is rife with opportunities to grow and learn new processes and systems. People are helpful and accepting. Teamwork is great, and it never feels like you're being judged.

ConsI have no cons to mention. The teams here have been incredible and I have not noticed anything out of the ordinary or strange that left a sour taste in my mouth.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep up the good work. It is wonderful

ConAgra is a good company to work for

Business Systems Analyst (Current Employee)
Omaha, NE (US)

I have been working at ConAgra Foods full-time for more than 3 years

ProsCareer opportunities: rotations and training in new areas encouraged but not required if you prefer your area.
Pay/Benefits: The compensation and benefits are good for the area
Flexible work environment: The IT department allows telecommuting one day a week, and has hotel cubes instead of assigned desks so you can move where you sit according to who you are working with. Flexible hours are available to work around things like day care, as long as you work during "core times" you can come into work at 6am or 9am.

ConsThe IT department has been known for having too many irons in the fire. There are plans in place to improve workloads, and it is getting better, but it's still a work in progress.

Good Company

Quality Specialist (Current Employee)
Omaha, NE (US)

I have been working at ConAgra Foods full-time for more than 3 years

ProsGreat work life balance and striving to become a best place to work.

ConsA lot of restructuring and changing of management. The work life balance largely depends upon your manager. Not all managers share the company's views on work life balance.

Advice to Senior ManagementTrain your managers to have consistency with ConAgra's culture and values.

Manager, Consumer Insights (Current Employee)

I have been working at ConAgra Foods full-time for more than 7 years

ProsGreat CEO with great vision and influence. Lots of great people to work with. Strong internal pride for the company and its brands.

ConsLack of trust among some employees. Big corporation with some bureaucracie and time-consuming processes. Hard to recruit and retain talent in headquarter.

Big budgets and systems but extremely top-heavy and political

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Omaha, NE (US)

I have been working at ConAgra Foods full-time

ProsLarge Budgets, best-in-class technologies, and high-performance DC 2.0 compute platform. Competitive pay.

ConsTop-heavy corporate structure, understaffed, overworked, hostile and political work environment. Poor performance rating platform. The business side controls every aspect of IT.

Advice to Senior ManagementMore workers, less management!

Overall Positive about Conagra Operations

Maintenance Supervisor (Current Employee)

I have been working at ConAgra Foods full-time for more than a year

ProsWorked two years at plant that was shutdown in 2011. Company did superlative job of providing support, training, job hunting support, and severance pay, starting a year in advance of shutdown, for all employees.
It was understood that Conagra wanted to do right by everyone, and did.

ConsSupervisory work days were initially scheduled 12 hours a day: in a 24 hour environment, but were usually 14+ hours, due to meetings before and after.

Advice to Senior ManagementWay too much management turnover at all levels. Half of positions are held long-term, but others turnover frequently, particularly among floor supervisors.
Ability to move within the company is good, and should continue.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company
