I worked at Dell full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Do your job good, and you will get opportunity of promotion. There are always much more opportunities for you to move around inside 1 department, rather than inter-department.

    Cons

Some employee gets favored over others by certain manager.
The support case system is horrible - the person who were in charge should get fired.
You can be surprised how some incompetent people can stay in their job for so long in dell.
    some sign of internal politic.
some senior employee wait for you to make the mistake big enough, and then jump out to clean the mess to showcase their importance to the management. Don't expect much of help from them from start, just make the problem big, and get management attention, then they will come and help.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

encourage people make mistakes, even reward agent who learn/improve from their mistake.
discourage people who left problem hit the fan, question them of their preventive measure.
don't let each Dell support center isolate from each other, it should be 1 big team, encourage knowledge and experience flow both ways.

I worked at Dell full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

If you love technology and understand the value proposition of Dell you will go great guns. Lots of formal and informal learning. Can be alot of discretion required for decion making but adds to the challenge.

    Cons

Big on virtual teams so if yours is toxic seriously affects your performance with not much room to maneuver
Need to understand metrics of territory. If not things get quite perilous with your manager.
Not for the easy going or wall flower
Managers are young so not much worth with performance reviews

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have better understanding of discovering peoples strengths and backing them

I worked at Dell full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Strong sales culture, good incentives, motivated team "on the floor" and growing portfolio of capabilities including easy conversation starters with WYSE, Quest software and hosting services.

Good work life balance and decent rewards when over-achievement happens.

    Cons

Growing layers of approvers before things can happen , lukewarm ability to execute on Services and disconnect between Sales and Support.

Lack of communication from the most senior levels in the organisation over the last 12 months.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire for cultural fit, choose battles (and deals) Dell can win then go for it.

I have been working at Dell full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The company has a very positive and supportive culture. Everyone will work to support and teach one another, regardless of if you work in their patch. Our enterprise products are second to none, and this is important as our customers trust us.

    Cons

Your first week is like drinking straight from the firehose! Prepare to think, and move quickly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't be afraid to take risks, and don't say the things other managers want to hear... This will kill the company in the long-term.

I worked at Dell full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The connected home program was a great initiative for some on the staff that qualified. Good management teams and great colleagues and good social events.

    Cons

Too many re-orgs and Changes, I had 5 managers in 3 years at one stage but my last manager I had for 3 years and was great.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to get rid of the non contributors and get a fresh senior mangement team which vendor experience other than Dell.

    Not enjoyable

    Former Employee - Sales Representative
    Former Employee - Sales Representative

I worked at Dell full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Some good peers. Established networks within industry.

    Cons

Uncertain direction. Trying to play catchup to rest of industry, but there does not appear to be any real strategy (or competitive advantage being created). I found myself very confused on what type of mind share we are working towards when doing business with my clients.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You either need to communicate the direction better with employees or put some effort in getting an actual strategy in place.
