I worked at Deloitte full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Deloitte's management consultancy area provided a great way to expand my skill base quickly and provide opportunities earlier in my career that would have not been received else where.
Deloitte is excellent and managing their brand, managing knowledge and managing the careers of their people. Would not have left if not for the experience with a few partners in Brisbane.
Cons – The experience and opportunities afforded to you are completely determined by your relationships with the partners in your local office. Overall Deloitte has some excellent partners but my experience was soured by the now former partners in the Brisbane office. Senior management was aware of the cultural issues that existed, which was clearly shown through 360 feedback surveys and feedback by the directors, but was unwilling to take any strong action to rectify the situation.
Advice to Senior Management – Increase due-dilligence of new partners .

I worked at Deloitte full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Good culture generally, work with some great, talented people on a mix of different projects. Learn quickly, great for someone who likes to work hard and learn fast. Resources and infrastructure great.
Cons – Hierarchy and politics can limit work and learning opportunities for talented juniors, especially when there is excess staff and (higher ranking) junior managers are falling short of their personal billable hour targets. Essentially, being a cog in a hierarchy, a junior must move with the pace of the organisation or seek to exit and move outside of it - large organisations don't have the agility/flexibility to accommodate differences in learning/work effectiveness, although they try
Advice to Senior Management – See cons

I worked at Deloitte as an intern for less than a year
Pros – The people and the culture were both truly fantastic. The team I was with were very friendly and helped me settle in and start being productive from day one. The work was the highlight - varied and interesting. There are also some nice small perks, such as free fruit, tea/coffee, Friday afternoon drinks, etc. Nothing major, but better than nothing.
Cons – The pay is mediocre - I could earn more at most other places. Also, the expected hours are long; 8:30-5:30 is just about the shortest day you'll work.

I worked at Deloitte as an intern for less than a year
Pros – Hours were great. Lots of free time. The other vacationers were great and people in general were friendly, especially come Friday drinks.
Cons – Never given anything challenging nor any proper client work. I never properly understood why they had me there if it was just to sit around and self-teach myself SQL.
Advice to Senior Management – Give more challenging work

I worked at Deloitte full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – I loved the culture. The people there were more of a family and as a result we produced better results and worked perfectly as a team!
Cons – Deloitte offices are different in different countries. What I observed with the office I was based at was, progression was very slow. The org. structure was quite frustrating, as sometimes promotions would be stalled because "there are too many seniors and not a lot of juniors", irregardless of how much you had performed.
Advice to Senior Management – Listen to your staff more. Sometimes it is better to keep them happy instead of always having to retrain and not retain.
Also, make changes to the org structure, even if it is an internal ranking, that at least shows staff that they are progressing and not stuck in one position

I worked at Deloitte full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Based on experience at Australian firm:
* Timely & frequent reviews (every 3 months on a project, plus twice a year) = valuable feedback to grow & learn from
* Surrounded by highly driven people
* Good diverse projects (if you push for them - See CON)
* Knowledgeable Partners
* Inspiring Board / Leaders
* Real focus on culture in recent years.
* Pays attention to professional / career growth
* Good opportunity to travel (if that's your thing - or a CON if that's not your thing)
* Great for grads to launch career (especially the diversity of projects)
Cons – Based on experience at Australian firm:
* Promotion not based on pure merit or capability - but on relationships & project success (rewards free-riders)
* Consulting model works on maximising revenue from utilising your skills - which may not coincide with what you want to do - i.e. you end up trapped on bad projects / stuck with same kind of projects.
* But if you know what you want to do, and is willing to put in the time on bad projects to build your credibility & relationships within the firm with long term view of doing work you want. Deloitte works for you.
* You will be overlooked unless you shout loud - it's not a place where you can let quality of work speak for itself. You have to speak up to to build reputation in the firm.
Advice to Senior Management – Cut out the politics, weed out the boys clubs. Attribution in Australian firm in recent years due to lack of respect for employees with skills. Promotions & rewards went to people who shouted the loudest.
