    - Great location and working environment in Sydney
    - Emphasis on Gen Y, social media and new ways of doing business

    Cons

    - Bureaucracy, a lot of processes as any big companies
    - Teams can be cliquey at times - again as in many companies

I have been working at Deloitte full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Some good people, inovation is strong, good set of clients.

    Cons

    To many to list.

Poor pay, v poor local leadership - staff are treated with contempt, bulling wildly accepted means of managemnt.

Progression: Deloitte dangles carrots making staff think a path to partner is real- the reality is that the carrot does not exist. The partnership will use every bit of energy you have (with little reward or thanks) until you fail to deliver at which point they will spit you out.

If you have no life, want to wake each night worrying - this is the place to be.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your staff are your life blood, treat them with respect.

    Pros

Some good people, i have met while working there.
    Good support/Benefits for further education
    Good brand

    Cons

The signals exist because it is what Deloitte lacks and aspires to embrace. I find them still wanting.
In the end, behind all the big words and "professional" whatever. It's all about the cha ching. so if you are not making your pimp money by being chargeable, out you go. nothing else matters.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

nothing, you are the perfect machine.

Good company overall. Risk Services service line in Australia is broken and has poisonous culture.

I worked at Deloitte full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The broader Australian firm has good leadership, smart people and provides a platform for career growth, particularly in the Consulting service line. On balance, I enjoyed my time and came away with a whole new set of skills and experience, so the personal development and breath of work was great.

The Australian firm has also done well to recover from a very bad market position 10 years ago to being fairly strong in the market. This has left the firm with a more nimble and entrepreneurial culture than some competitors.

    Cons

The Risk Services service line has an strategic and identity crisis.

The overseas ERS equivalents in the US/UK have grown strongly in non-audit areas to provide a solid platform for growth, but the local practice is stuck in a downward spiral. It lacks depth of consulting/SI capability, is losing good partners/staff, and lacks client credibility for tackling engagements that go beyond tick-and-bash auditing, whilst the remaining partners only really know how to do audits. The firm has also made several acquisitions of technology companies in the last 5 years into Risk Services, which have not succeeded from a cultural perspective and the acquired staff have generally moved on.

I also witnessed partners bullying junior and mid-level members of staff, and despite this being an open secret, there wasn't much evident intervention.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Decide what you want to do with Risk Services, get a clear strategy and invest in it. Fix the pockets of poisonous culture.
