Current Employee – been working at Department for Work And Pensions
Pros – As a working mum of 4 this employer is a very family friendly place. They are generous on holidays, flexi-time and have options of doing term time (depending on business needs). The managers have progress meetings with individual staff once a month so together you can set personal targets and goals. Most office locations are not within the city so savings can be made on commute.
Cons – The down side to working here is that the work is repetitive and boredom can set in. Moving around to other business sections i.e from jobcentre to the marketing department is very few and far between. The skills that you use within the jobcentre plus are hard to transfer to other jobs outside the DWP so the possibilities of getting stuck within the DWP is high. Changes happen frequently and senior management/government doesn't allow sufficient time for change management to happen.
Advice to Senior Management – Change management is a problem, staff need sufficient time to adjust to changes before they change again. This often leaves us looking incompetent infront of customers and often leads to misinformation being given, decreasing customer service levels.

Current Employee – been working at Department for Work And Pensions
Pros – pay cheque and flexi -time, managers are not rude to you, difficult to get rid of you if you're in the PCS union (cost £8.41 per month). The pay is not bad by Wolverhampton standards.
Cons – boring, repetitative work on ancient pre-Windows software. The simplist tasks are intricate and time consuming, requireing the use of three databases . A stagnate aging workforce, some there since the 60s. A woman got a medal for being in the same job, in the same place, for...25 years!! They are incredibly petty to a molecular degree and complain about things no one in the private sector would have time for. The main topic of conversation is the eating habits of their children. A colleagues's child and husband both like wild rice with fishfingers and tomarto ketchup.
It's depressing working for a welfare system that has failed.
Advice to Senior Management – please stop saying:"Everything will be all right when Universal Credit comes in"...in 2013. More vertical and horizontal promotion opportunities. What is the purpose of our welfare system?
