    Pros

People work hard and get the job done, it can also be a fun place to work at times. Not a rigid as some corporate companies.

    Cons

Sometimes have to work long hours and some days can be challenging, especially when dealing with a company that has a headquarters on the East Coast and your on the West Coast. Lots of 6am meetings!

I have been working at Discovery Communications as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Good work life balance. Once you step out of the office, emails stop coming, you're completely off duty

    Cons

Tedious, grueling, monotonous work for poor quality shows that are turning tabloid like. No career path.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

concentrate on high quality shows don't just pump out botched series to have more to show.

I worked at Discovery Communications full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Interesting internal events and benefits for employees including a wellness center, nutritionist, craft fairs and opportunities to meet discovery network celebrities.
Great travel perks- stayed at the finest hotels. Smart and creative staff.

    Cons

When asked what it was like working at discovery many alum will refer to it as a "sweatshop." The hours expected to work are completely unreasonable, unsustainable and the pay is not as competitive as you'd hope for. Biggest issue is upper management- they see their employees as replaceable, make false promises about promotions and only look out for themselves rather than their larger team.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you want to retain talented people recognize their hard work, promote from within and practice what you preach about work/life balance.

An incredible place to learn and be inspired

    Pros

Never feel stuck in your daily role with the opportunities to work laterally across other networks and departments. There are many things like in-house childcare and employee health clinics that make it somewhere you want to spend your time every day without feeling like you're personal life is taking a toll from your work life. They also have a phenomenal intern program!

    Cons

It would have been nice if there were more hiring opportunities open for interns.
