I have been working at DuPont full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good opportunities for advancement, transfers and cross functional experience. Very respectful environment with high safety values. Stable jobs at plant sites. Collaborative atmosphere with emphasis on teamwork.

    Cons

Lots of turnover since the area is booming and employees often get experience then leave for other companies. Also the company is publicly shedding businesses that are not around their high margin agriculture business and the "fresh start" initiative has a lot of corporate "overhead" employees worried for their jobs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire more employees than needed at more than competitive salaries to make up for the experience that is dwindling and hopefully with attrition you will have enough to keep the knowledge high. Also a lot of senior leadership is at retirement age which makes it difficult for them to be motivated to make necessary changes.. They are more likely to keep it "stable" at status quo rather than rock the boat when needed

I worked at DuPont as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Brilliant atmosphere and a great team. I was challenged but supported in everything I did and I couldn't recommend it any more highly.

    Cons

I worked on a contract basis and although there was a full time position available it took over six months to offer it to me. By this point I'd already found a full time job elsewhere and felt obliged to take it.

I have been working at DuPont as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Contractors are well paid and well received. You are valued, however generally speaking they is no hope of being made permanent.

    Cons

Bureaucratic. On-boarding is sparse, it is tough to gain access to necessary software. Literally you must set you IT things up yourself. The company is in the midst of reduction of workforce.

    Pros

stability; company has been in business for > 200 years. Variety of businesses and job types.

    Cons

slow moving, introverted culture. Company is not growing as fast as its peers and competitors. Limited upside opportunity

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Top leaders should INTERACT with your technical staff. You would be astounded at the distortion of your message as it filters down through layers of management.

    Pros

    flexibility in work schedule, 401K

    Cons

There seems to be a lot of short term thinking. It feels like making the quarter is the only priority, willing to sacrifice long term business and profits for short term, quarterly win.

Extremely conservative culture in a challenging environment that requires risk taking

I worked at DuPont full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great focus on core values and a really helpful and collaborative environment. DuPont has a very strong culture and you are very quickly a part of a family that looks out for each other. They do have some winning potential in the agriculture and industrial biosciences sector and those are the best areas to join.

    Cons

Do not expect to complete anything of even medium risk in anything less than 1 to 2 years. If you are ambitious, driven and hungry to make a difference and see results, this is not the company to satisfy those needs. A very comfortable and conservative middle management team that struggles to make any decisions that can move the dial for the key projects that really matter. "Over-collaboration" (if there is such a word) is the norm and the expected way of working, to the point where it seems like you are just contributing to a very wheel that is moving ever so slowly. There is a large community of near-retirement employees across many groups (this is entirely a reality and not a judgement) so you need to understand this affects the decision-making and risk profile of the organisation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Keep the focus on core values as it is critical to the success of the company.
    - Start creating the risk-taking culture sooner rather than later in the groups that are crucial to the success of the company (this is likely a structural and management issue more than the culture of the company)
    - Consider shaking things up in middle management through job rotation where things have gotten too comfortable.
    - Be very deliberate about the approach to external hires and create the right plan and metrics for success for external hires to ensure that there is a reasonable chance of success in a very complex and bureaucratic organisational structure.

I worked at DuPont as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Excellent company. They have a unique culture and are very proud of their history. Core values are of utmost importance and are carried out on a daily basis. Worked with many great people. Everyone was more than willing to help me out and teach me the ropes.

    Cons

The company makes it seem like there are ample opportunities to gain employment after internship, however the amount of positions they have available is very limited. Additionally they are in the process of reorganizing the company so it was very hectic scheduling meetings.

Talented, intelligent, and respectful people. Company has core values (ethical behavior, safety, environmental stewardship, respect for people) and actually talks and practices them everyday. Great information technology support for all job positions.

    Cons

Insufficient agility to harness next generation opportunities to create long-term value. Focused on this quarter's results. Team performance seems to vary from plant to plant.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need more corporate leaders populating their own personal SharePoint sites to encourage likewise collaboration of all employees. Non-engineers can make a contribution also!
