Travel and career intertwined

Advisory Senior (Current Employee)
Los Angeles, CA (US)

I have been working at EY full-time for less than a year

ProsA very young consulting practice which allows for a lot of growth opportunities. The senior leadership also encourages all employees to participate and share ideas.

ConsIf you don't like travel, then EY is not for you. Traveling employees do not have an office, but utilize hotel offices. This can sometimes be challenging for getting to know people in the office.

They will work you to death, but the experience will build character that will help you in future jobs.

Tax Senior (Current Employee)
Irvine, CA (US)

I have been working at EY full-time for more than 3 years

ProsThey are pretty big on flexibility in my office, taking time off is not too painful when it is no busy season. There is plenty of opportunity to grow as much as you want as fast as you want.

ConsBusy seasons are brutal. The overall environment is a little too "sink-or-swim" which quickly weeds out those who cannot handle the job. However, I have found that the longer you are with the Firm, the easier it gets, and the opportunities are there if you want them.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe culture, from my experience, is too "corporate" (i.e. cut-throat). I would like to see a move towards more of a teaming culture.

Bloodsuckers

Manager Advisory Services (Current Employee)
Los Angeles, CA (US)

I have been working at EY full-time for more than 3 years

ProsThe pay and brand name on your resume.

ConsSince EY has expanded their advisory services practice their retention and work satisfaction in that practice has been horrible. People are being over worked under served and under payed. The partners are cleaning up. It has turned into a chop shop for consulting services.

Advice to Senior ManagementCompletely rethink your advisory expansion and how it impacts your overall culture and the health and life of your employees.

The work isnt so great, but the people who work with you can be pleasant

Staff (Current Employee)
Los Angeles, CA (US)

I have been working at EY full-time for more than a year

ProsSome of the people you work with can become good friends outside of the office. There is always some work available (albeit it can sometimes be absolutely dull and extremely monotonous).

ConsThe work-life balance is definitely lacking considering how many hours you work. It's sad when you divide how much you get paid by how many hours you work. Sometimes there's unnecessary pressure to stay longer than needed. There's great pressure on ridiculous utilization goals, to the point where it becomes stressful (and this can obviously lead to lower productivity). Despite this utilization goal, interesting work is still outsourced to work centers in India. I understand this increases firm profits but (I believe) it doesn't trickle down to our paychecks..

Advice to Senior ManagementStaff and employees in the lower echelons should be given more enriching work - this will definitely help the firm in the long run.
