I worked at Ecolab (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Different divisions within the company make it an interesting place to work with some great employees. Also have some great products.

    Cons

Company is too top heavy with some senior management willing to do anything in order to progress up
the corporate ladder. Company culture has become very political at the top end. They say they value their employees but they tend to have no hesitation in getting rid of even the most loyal, long term and competent employees. Also they do not value and appreciate how hard some of their sales people work - its all about the almighty dollar and taking over competitors.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper management need to listen to their staff and value their thoughts and to employ senior executives with an engaging management style rather than an "autocratic" management style.

I worked at Ecolab full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

None any more - unless you know how to play the politics.

    Cons

Company acquiring companies to grow bottom line at the expense of long serving loyal employees. The office culture from Nalco for example is being pushed into the Ecolab associates.

Nalco are political and back stabbers and have remove Ecolab employees in favour of their own.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The Ecolab culture is diminishing... it's now Nalcolab...understand the need for integration however letting Nalco management -- a company that was not making money -- bad management that they have been bought over so many times -- to take over managing successful Ecolab divisions and pushing the Nalco culture vs the Ecolab culture is very disheartening.

I have been working at Ecolab full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Interesting and fantastic opportunities to do different things

    Cons

Going through culture change - can be difficult to deal with people who are stuck in their ways and unable to move forward.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Business likely to operate better if senior management have the same direct reporting line. Current matrix brings uncertainty, potentially conflicting objectives.

I have been working at Ecolab full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great pay. Flexible hours. 401k match, stock and other great benefits.
Company vehicle with gas card and company credit card. Everyday is different. Minimal supervision.

    Cons

You have to make and follow your own schedule so being proactive and a self starter is vital. Pay is dependent on service and customer base so if a corporate account goes your pay for it goes too. A lot of pressure to make budget. Late night installs and emergency service at all hours. We have a great team here but I've heard other areas are not as supportive. You have to get your vacations and sick days covered and order and store your own equipment. Advancement opportunities are great but for most you need to move.
