    Pros

    Learn how to work in a matrix
    Very profitable business
    Excellent grounding for understanding business financials and managing risk
    Compensation is good

    Cons

    No empowerment
    Small roles
    Very slow decision making
    Lots of layers
    Very hierarchical with people more concerned with grade than with talent and ability

    Empower your workforce, you pay well to get great talent then gve them small roles with unclear responsibilities.

    I have been working at Barclays full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    The salary and benefits offered are very generous and are very easily accessible to all levels. Internal promotion is relatively simple at lower skill levels and this quickly corresponds to increased wages.

    Cons

    Very slow at change and innovation, the company is very behind in terms of IT systems, banking systems and more importantly at attitude towards the customer. There is a very imminent presence of Senior level slogans that do not materialise in employee eyes. Operations are too widely dispersed, approaching diseconomies of scale.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Instead of promoting meaningless slogans seek to get it right for the customer, this will bring you most business. Change the focus away from cost reduction but more towards revenue maximisation - by definition this is more expansive and will prevent losing skilled employees and outsourcing operations that should be domestic.
