I have been working at Barnes & Noble part-time

Pros

They care about their employees. There are a lot of different retail stores to work in across the country. Every day you get the chance to talk to new people. It's a good environment and a company that will take care of you as an employee.

Cons

If you are only part time the pay isn't the highest. If you're full time you do get better pay and benefits. If you're part time it's just typical hourly pay. It is a retail job and that does mean plenty of crazy people to deal with at times as well as some different hours to work. It's not a 9-5, but it's a good job.

I worked at Barnes & Noble full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Comfortable work with little if any challenge.

    Cons

Associates were mean spirited. Management was clueless.

I have been working at Barnes & Noble part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

They have good benefits for full-timers. It's a nice store to work at, and conditions are generally good.

    Cons

Depending on the managers it can be rough at times. The prices are bad even with employee discount. Hours are inconsistent. Managers often aren't great at their job and pass responsibility onto you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Relax, be friendly, kind, and encouraging to booksellers and employees. Don't let frustrations with customers get in the way of your attitude.
