Pros

If you can sell and give great customer service, this is the job for you. Great opportunity for advancement, many different types of jobs to choose from.

Cons

long hours, the structure of the organization differs from one region to the next. The company, especially administration, should be more transparent.

Retain good talent and stop pushing them out the door

    I worked at Enterprise Rent-A-Car full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    ERAC provides your average college graduate with the tools to making a living & craft a career on little more than hard work, perseverance, salesmanship, & self-motivation. If you're the type of person who can put on the blinders & hustle toward financial/ managerial goals 7-9 years down the road, than this is a prime position. Corporate will provide you with a detailed business model & if you consistently execute, while keeping your head down, then you'll certainly be successful.

    Perhaps more than most companies, ERAC upper management is filled with executives who started at the bottom & steadily climbed the ladder, showing loyalty along the way. You don't need an MBA, specific bachelor's degree, or defined interest to make it big here...you must be competitive, enduring, & acutely focused.

    Also of note is the opportunity to truly impact those under you once you progress into a management position. I wouldn't pay much attention to the claims that ERAC "gives you the tools to run your own business," but it certainly does afford you the chance to captain a team & help others along while furthering your own career.

    Other pros...
    -Work hard, play hard mentality
    -Rapid promotion for deserving candidates
    -Respected training program
    -Easy interview process
    -Lasting friendships

    Cons

    The simple truth is that the rental car industry is exhausting and infuriating. You will be worked to the bone accommodating a largely hostile clientele. You'll be a slave to market demand, doing what the customer wants when he/she wants it & tolerating constant complaints...it's a cycle that begins to gnaw at your happiness. Closing time finds may find you drained & in a bad mood.

    Another thing to consider is that the branch office environment can be wholly unprofessional...ironic considering the company prides itself on a conventional, clean-cut approach.

    Other cons...
    -Strictly enforced business-formal dress code...yes you do often wash/ vacuum cars in a full suit or heels
    -Long hours (I worked plenty of 7:30AM-7PM days...fairly normal for right out of college but consider you're running around all day)
    -Underpaid
    -Customer Service Industry...frequent conflict between customer expectations & ability to deliver
    -Work Saturdays...Sundays at some locations

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    It's imperative Enterprise admit that positions in local branch offices need not require a college degree or formal attire. Customers don't expect these things & such requirements work to attract college grads that are better served in industries where they can leverage their analytical skills. Management trainee requires little more than mindless following of directions. The truth is that a motivated high school grad will probably do better than a college student wishing he/she had put their degree to better use.
