Current Employee - IT Project Manager  in  Houston, TX (US)
Current Employee - IT Project Manager in Houston, TX (US)

Pros

Good pay & benefits.
Depending on assignment, good co-workers.

Cons

Forced ranking process, completely depends on "who you know."
Black-box job assignment process - attempting to apply directly for a position is a no-no.
Management gives lipservice to work/life balance, but only promotes extended seat-warmers. Therefore, high hours = high performance (a strict performance comparison is apparently just too difficult).
"Nanny" safety policies - must hold handrails on stairs, etc.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Lose the ranking system. At best, it ensures the best butt-kissers get promoted. At worst, it encourages a short-sighted culture, since prior years are ignored. This is why there are so many projects that look good on paper, but afterwards turn out to be useless, or worse. Even pro-ranking experts seem to agree that it only works for a couple of years.

    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

The salary is relatively good compared to the work effort. There is hardly any overtime needed, which makes it an attractive workplace for people with family.

    Cons

There is little room for moving up the ladder. The tasks are not very motivating and people can get bored fast.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer more job rotation possibilities for employees. Also, use less emphasis on the safety issues.

Former Employee - Customer Service Specialist  in  Prague (Czech Republic)
Former Employee - Customer Service Specialist in Prague (Czech Republic)

    Pros

ok salary and benefits, compared to the level of the local labor marked, security in the employment, almost impossible to get fired, there is an ok work environment in terms of good colleagues and novone get stressed

    Cons

ExxonMobil in Prague is a business service center, and this is important to realize. The service center is placed in Prague because of the cheap labor force that can be used to perform operational tasks. This means that no decisions are made in Prague and 98 percent of the positions are entry level positions, all managers are brought in from abroad (1300 people, most of them with college degree work there and no one are promoted to Managers and fairly no one are transferred to decision making business units). So in respect to career options ExxonMobil Prague it is a big DEAD END !! That it is a service center for operations only also affect work satisfaction. Everything is rule driven with detailed work instructions and employees are expected to work like “semi programed robots”. The quality of supervisors are poor, most of them are college graduates without any human resources or leadership skills or experience. So for experienced or ambitious employees ExxonMobil Prague sucks. Never the less as an entry job to get experiences for fresh graduates or young non Czechs who want to work abroad for a while it can be ok

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To focus more on motivation of the employees in terms HR development and delegation of responsibility. Most Employees are diligent and do what they are supposed to with the goal of receiving the pay check, and that’s all. Very few employees go the extra mile or show passion for their work. This means that a huge amount of employee potential is wasted and that the service often becomes rigid and not customer focused
