I worked at Gen-Probe full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The best part of the Gen-Probe experience was meeting so many new friends and dedicated professionals. I learned a lot about the molecular diagnostics industry, and the company provided many opportunities for professional development.

    Cons

It became clear over the last five years that the company is not interested in organic growth. The focus at the executive level was clearly on mergers and acquisitions. Now, it seems, there is no interest in the long term, which may result in obsolescence.

The review process became very subjective, meaning that your performance review was entirely dependent on your supervisor's perception of the process, with little or no standardization across the department.

Communication from the top down was lacking.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember that your most valuable resource is the dedicated and hard-working scientists in research and development. Innovation is lacking, and new, disruptive technologies will result in your company's loss of competitiveness.
