I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Colleagues are usually great people to work with. Some advantages of working for a large market leader.

    Cons

Poor people skills from management. Career path based on internal networking. Best jobs are preselected and not open. Salary increases are almost a dream. Strategy to recruit young and cheap. Very poor relationship between employees and management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cost cutting and very unpopular witch hunt workforce reduction programs have beaten the hell out of the company morale. It is not good when HP spends billions on dubious software acquisitions then lays off 28,000 people, replacing many in part with young underskilled staff. Providing very little support, job alternatives and re-skilling is so far away from the hp 'people first' culture that HP was originally - strangely something Whitman wants to return to. Hiring very expensive external executives has produced a culture of elitism and poor team involvement.
