    I worked at IHS

    Pros

    Great work culture
    Fantastic opportunity in new areas
    Strong values and ethics
    Strong business model

    Cons

    Talent retention and development of future leaders at mid and junior level management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Focus on improving and retaining talent at the mid and junior level. Many of these individuals can be the leaders of the organization tomorrow and need to be nurtured and provided with opportunities to flourish

    I have been working at IHS full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    * benefits are good
    * lots of expertise within the company
    * career path
    * performance reviewed once a year
    * visbility of senior management in our location: opportunities to ask questions and discuss future of the company etc.

    Cons

    * low base salary. Bonus and RSU are OK, but I need to pay my bills once a month and not once a year
    * there is no link between performance and pay as IHS claim. Salary increase budgets are ridiculously low and cannot be considered as reward for performance (especially if inflation is much higher than your increase)
    * quality of services/publications has declined since our acquisition
    * people who left did not get replaced. You work at a limit day in day out.
    * no time for in depth analysis
    * no time to build up expertise. You are busy ticking boxes as you are doing other peoples' jobs and are rushing from deadline to deadline.
    * terrible work life balance
    * no training apart from soft skills.
    * some managers seriously lack management skills
    * accounts payable are unreliable. this is particularly bad.
    * HR in the UK are ignorant
    * it is all about cost cutting and financial performance and staff realises that.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Stop lip service but talk straight. Train managers to a high standard, be more supportive and check on them. Begin to really appreciate the effort people make by providing training (not online courses for softskills). Invest into staff and enable real career progression. Stop endless cost cutting but help people become experts by giving them the time and the resources to do so. In other words: walk the talk.
