I worked at IHS full-time for more than a year

Pros

Some very smart people working on some truly amazing things.

Cons

The organization of the company is a bit schizophrenic. They do relatively frequent layoffs to "trim the fat". Not always ready to embrace new technology, which leaves them behind the curve.

I have been working at IHS for more than 5 years

    Pros

    - Shares are pretty decent although really only a way of retaining staff.
    - Some good people working at IHS.

    Cons

    - Too many inefficient mid-level managers.
    - Too much corporate BS, so much so it gets in the way of everyday productivity.
    - Dishonest management and HR.
    - Extremely hierarchical, in the sense that the upper echelons of the business really do not care who or what the majority do, as long they get their bonuses.
    - The 'career path' is a red herring, it doesn't exist and is merely put in place to make out the company care for the individual.
    - Pay scales are uneven and will never be fair to all. I know for a fact one individual is paid 8k more than their colleague although they do the same job - work that out? It's all come from the fact they have bought to many companies up and had no strategy to merge them as one, even though this is their prime aim.
    - Happy to buy up successful businesses and slowly tear them apart. If they business was good enough to buy in the first place, why change it?
    - The yearly Colleague Engagement survey is the biggest joke ever. IHS make you believe that it's an opportunity for the employees to voice their opinions, although it's not that at all. In fact, it's a complicated survey that tediously repeats itself. When you finally do unlock the complicated and technical questions and answer honestly, you find your manager setting up meeting to attempt to brainwash you in answering differently next time. It is merely a load of data that the big wigs use to show their big shareholders that the colleagues are happy and productivity and dollar will increase and make them ultimately richer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Like you do with the majority once a year, trim the fat but this time include the overpaid mid-level managers who really do nothing but push emails about all day long.

I worked at IHS full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    Shares allocation for good performance

    Cons

Too aggressive in acquiring companies and didn't spend enough time & effort to integrate into existing business. Lack of basic infrastructures. No career advancement to senior management for Chinese

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

HR sucks! They do not honor confidentiality & privacy. Confidential news got spread out by HR and private emails got forwarded to others by HR without the consent of the senders. Time to change the whole HR dpt!
