I have been working at Lowe's full-time (more than 8 years)

Pros

They have an excellent benefits package. Advancement is possible with most every job.

Cons

There is not a set schedule, per se. You will work 3 out of 4 weekends a month in most jobs. This is a typical retail schedule though.

I have been working at Lowe's part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

-above market salary for retail positions
-a lot of autonomy for employees
    -very clear policy and procedures
-management provides you with all the tools you need for the job
-supportive coworkers (for the most part)

    Cons

-the work environment varies tremendously by store, some worse some better
-many senior managers are incompetent and do not set a good example for employees
-management often doesn't give rationale for their decisions
-uniform isnt comfortable at all - jeans and CSA steel toes
-performance appraisals are a joke. tend to be based on how liked you are rather than any quantitative measure of your performance
-most of advancement is through kissing up to management rather than having to do with skill or knowledge
-a lot of people end up working fulltime hours while being labeled part time associates and therefore are exempt from benefits dispite same contributions
-do not allow for any overtime hours

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

work with the employees on the floor a little more rather than hiding in the office and stop dumping all your work on your associates
