    I worked at Microsoft

    Pros

Got to work with some great folks.

    Cons

If you are not promoted on a regular cycle, you are moved out of the company. Stack ranking creates a competitive environment that is detrimental to innovation and improvement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Get rid of stack ranking.

I have been working at Microsoft full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good money, some places have very interesting work, but one has to look hard for them. You get to work with some incredibly smart people, and affect lives of millions. Or at least that's how it used to be.

    Cons

Politics. Suddenly the whole team goes down the drain, and you have to jump off really fast if you don't want to get stuck in sewer for a long time.
Compensation is getting less and less competitive with time.
Upper management is not very bright or competent, everything worthy is done despite them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Just go away, and let innovative people take over.
