I have been working at Microsoft part-time (more than a year)

Pros

a well-structured company, as a part-time student working there, employers are patient to teach you stuff as long as one wants to learn

Cons

too well structure and hierarchy, couldn't feel the passion about creativity or its own products

    Pros

    Salary can't be beat.
Cash cow divisions (office/windows) can have good work/life balance

    Cons

Review system requires politics/perception-management at all levels to succeed.
Benefits are eroding, both personal budgets and team morale budgets
Cash cow divisions (office/windows) have little advancement opportunity

    Advice to Management

Change the review system; it is overly based on individual performance instead of team performance, and it requires "stretch goal" achievements that are only achievable with political connections to get anything more than an average review.

    Pros

Always lots to do, can be as good as you make it.

    Cons

Impressive inefficiencies, constant churn, powerpoint culture,

    Advice to Management

Allow processes and strategies to mature for at least a year before changing things, the constant churn is exhausting.
