Current Employee - Operations Analyst in Glasgow, Scotland (UK)

I have been working at Morgan Stanley full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The obvious one is that it is a big and well known firm

    Cons

It may depend on the team and department you work in but in my experience the environment in horrible and highly un-meritocratic. Its all about who you know and what friends you have. I work in operations in Glasgow. Not sure about the environment in other offices though. The place is run like there are no rules and no HR guidelines for the ones in power and they basically have free reign to do whatever they like. I would strongly advise people thinking of joining operations in Glasgow to talk to a few people and get a feel of the place before you make a decision as it could severely impact your physical and mental well being in the next few months.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Autocratic management style was the common practice 50 years ago. In this day and age of enlightenment need to take a good hard look at the HR function and the way people are managed.
