I have been working at Northrop Grumman

Pros

technologically advanced environment, surrounded by the industry's top talents

Cons

no room for advancement. in large corporations, extreme competition exists. many avenues for growth and exposure yet no opportunity for advancement/ recognition.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

analyze system workflow for potential faults. Implement adopted safety measures to avoid liability.

I have been working at Northrop Grumman

    Pros

    - Time off / flexible schedule -- flex time, telecommuting, 9/80 workweek, paid time off program
    - Opportunities for growth and learning - through new assignments, lateral transfers, and promotions
    - Sense of accomplishment and Contributing to the mission
    - Company makes an effort to communicate with employees/Most management seems to really care about the people

    Cons

    - Realignment(s) and changing leadership
    - Company effort to migrate all parts of Northrop to common systems and processes after all the acquisitions - it's the right thing to do and will be worth it once it's done, it's just painful in the meantime

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Slow down on all the change - it's hard to get the important things right when the company seems to always be moving to the next thing (systems, processes, etc) before the items before are accomplished or stable
    - Foster a culture for better work/life balance and more collaboration-- less top-down management

I have been working at Northrop Grumman

    Pros

Really awesome work in support of a great country. Lots of great perks and the company has the type of benefits package you would expect from a large company. Pretty decent 401K, fabulous health care, and a fantastic flex-time system. The people are among the best and brightest I've met and everyone is genuinely friendly and helpful. First name basis for everyone, including division directors.

    Cons

Few opportunities for younger people to connect and advance. Despite most management being engineering-oriented, the company seems to be run by the lawyers. It's also very easy to get stuck in project and never find out what's happening elsewhere. While their technology at its core may be "Defining the future," their software development practices are, generally, circa late 1980s. Sadly, all the bureaucratic headaches you would stereotype in a big corporation are actually there. I never filled out a TPS report, but it came close.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper-level management seems only concerned about sales and growth rates, not the quality of either nor giving back to the employees. Don't get a lot of inspiring long-term vision.
