I have been working at PennWest

Pros

- Very friendly and open atmosphere. Senior Management are very friendly and approachable
- Mid-sized company, but has a very small feel to it
- Nice downtown office! Good location
- Gym inside the building!
- Competitive pay & benefits

Cons

- There doesn't seem to be any international opportunities, company is solely based in Canada
- Might not be easy to transfer from department to department

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Even if PennWest does continue to grow and reach the size of Husky & Talisman and the others..don't lose the atmosphere! Keep hiring summer students

I worked at PennWest full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great assets and amazing potential. Their vacation policy and office closures are great, and they used to have a great office culture. Office location is in the heart of downtown and close to many lunch spots. Their benefits package is very competitive.

    Cons

The management team struggles to retain its best employees. It has failed to deliver on its promises and as a result the company has continued to experience losses and unmet production targets. All of the recent restructuring has killed employee morale and most people are in roles that they no longer enjoy. The work load is way too high and the management skills are lacking.

At one time it was an excellent company. Then the merger, those people took management positions and ruined a company!

    Pros

Could work hard and get compensated for it. Good field staff to work with prior to the massive cuts.

    Cons

No work life balance. Wrong people promoted. Wrong people laid off.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clean house, you kept the wrong people.
