I have been working at Porter Novelli

Pros

- Strong leadership in both corporate offices in NY and local offices
- Focused on employee growth
- Supportive of innovation - employees are allowed to attempt new things and fail without fearing for their jobs
- Communication from management and among peers is frequent, open and honest

Cons

- Current financial performance of the company is limiting some opportunity for advancement
- Accountability on the senior management level seems lacking or slow to occur (this seems to be getting better, though)
- Resources to support innovation are lacking at times forcing a DIY approach

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide the resources and structure to allow your employees to succeed and then hold them accountable to the targets that they agree to meet.

Most awful employer ever, with terrible management and tolerates poor treatment of junior level employees

I worked at Porter Novelli full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Tolerates incompetent people if you are one of those--but are attractive and "look the part."

    Cons

Tolerates very poor treatment of employees by management including yelling and bullying. The agency has no vision and therefore won't do anything cutting edge and this has resulted in its decline. My guess is that Omnicom will ultimately merge it with one of its other more successful PR agencies and liquidate much of the existing staff. Given that the existing CEO, Karen van Bergen, has a senior background at Fleishman Hillard, my guess is that is where Omnicom will integrate Porter Novelli and ultimately lay off most of the existing employees and try to retain what clients Porter has left.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring in a management consultancy to audit everything including the abilities / competencies of senior management.
