Frequent layoffs :-(

Prefer Not to Say - VERY Identifying Title (Former Employee)
Orlando, FL (US)

I worked at Scholastic full-time for more than 3 years

ProsLoved the family friendly atmosphere. Was able to have a great work/life balance. Super professional people, NICE people fulfilling a mission.

ConsMay layoffs EVERY year. Was hired even though my Manager knew my tenure would probably not be more than two years. :-( The other divisions of Scholastic are bringing down the proverbial ship and thus Scholastic Book Fairs was forced to do really deep layoffs over the last several years. (Publicly traded company)

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement was great in Orlando, unfortunately the layoff orders were coming from higher up in NYC.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend

Nice place to work

Senior Editor (Current Employee)
New York, NY (US)

I have been working at Scholastic full-time for more than a year

Pros: Scholastic is a lovely place to work. Some plusses: -Nice, respectful people. -Great office location in SoHo NYC! -Good cheap food in the cafeteria (it's also nice to… Cons: Highly bureaucratic. Many decisions come from upper management (and no, of course they don't know how to do your job!) Even though I'm a full-time employee… Advice to Senior Management: Listen to your employees. Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company… More
