I have been working at University of California Berkeley full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good health benefits, except maternity leave.
    Decent scientific resources: equipment, people
    Overall positive environment, beautiful campus

    Cons

Maternity leave policy is immediate 3/4 pay for 6 weeks, after which you receive no more payment without returning back to work full time. If, as a postdoc, your position is up for renewal (as it is every 2 years) you will not be renewed and you will lose your pay and health insurance promptly after having a child. This is actually pretty horrible, and Berkeley should fix this.
