Former Employee - Store Manager in Memphis, TN (US)

I worked at Walmart full-time for more than 10 years

Pros

Leader in the industry.
The associates you have the privilege of working with and leading.
Great compensation for managers.

Cons

Bottom line has become more important than associates working there.
Below average compensation for hourly associates and schedules for hourlies are really inconsistent.
Becoming scorecard driven and it's taking away from customer service levels in the stores.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the leaders in the stores that have been with the company for many years. They do know what they are talking about. They have a better idea of what they need to run the store than a computer or some college kid fresh out of school in Bentonville does.

3 on 3 off rotating schedule. Great experience for those wanting to master retail. There is usually a friendly work environment.

This is an ever changing job. Adessive freight flow. Inconsistencies between stores. Holiday work with minimal time off.

I have been working at Walmart full-time for less than a year

    Pros

You get to work inside and you get acquainted with products. Your coworkers are usually tolerable.

    Cons

Very hard work for very little pay. Constantly talked down to in meetings how you're not good enough. An hour-long unpaid lunch break on top of the eight hours you already have to spend there. Some people may enjoy that, I do not.
I absolutely despise this place, and it's only my fourth day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have no words. If you made it to Walmart management, there is something wrong with you.
    God help you.
