    Current Employee - Contract Attorney

I have been working at FTI Consulting

    Pros

Nice place to work, flexible and the project managers are great, and make an effort to keep the contract employees engaged continuously on projects

    Cons

No benefits and not many paid holidays

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If contract employees are bound by the same rules as full time employees and required to be in the office "core hours" then we should have access to an optional healthcare plan. Also for people who have been there a year or more they shouldn't have to work the day before a holiday to get the holiday pay, and we should have the same paid holidays we had with our staffing agencies (Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Years Day). Instead of only 4th of July, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

    Pros

I feel like my coworkers are sharp and educated. Compensation is pretty good. They have also been mindful of my young kids in determining travel schedules. My particular segment is definitely growing.

    Cons

    None bad enough to mention.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue efforts at cross-pollination of segments.

I have been working at FTI Consulting

    Pros

good leadership although small size, but everyone works together well and the company culture is decent enough compared to other firms i have worked at

    Cons

not many cons but perhaps small size? department wise though, so perhaps with expansion plans this can change.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

more focus on employee training would be a boon, but generally management is decent

I have been working at FTI Consulting

    Pros

The model of the firm is similar to the partner/associate model in a law firm; much of the day to day will depend on your manager. This tends to result in a entrepreneurial atmosphere in the firm, in my experience. So far I've enjoyed my time here.

    Cons

Good/bad here. I think it really depends on your personality. If you are someone who needs to plan every single day the same way, this is not the place for you. Every day is different. I enjoy the excitement but sometimes that makes planing my personal life a bit of a challenge.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the entrepreneurial spirit! The positivity is infectious, in a good way. One minor sidebar: there is an opportunity for efficiency in terms of our portfolio of employee/internal software

Former Employee - Middle Management in London, England (UK)

    I worked at FTI Consulting

    Pros

    Quality of engagements is reasonable
FTI punches above its weight in Corporate Finance given the non big-4 brand name
Some ambitious and high performing people at mid management levels -> however there are also too any average performers
    Compensation is decent

    Cons

Culture is non existent/ poor -> this is the root of all other cons
Limited desire by senior management to invest in and develop talent
Short termist view around projects -> just get the job done and collect the fee and move on
Lack of honest feedback around performance and career development
No consideration given to people wanting to have a life outside of work -> yes there is an expectation of long hours, but some empathy/flexibility would be helpful

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in people and develop a positive culture

Former Employee - Manager in Baltimore, MD (US)

I worked at FTI Consulting full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The people are very nice. Most are competent, and willing to assist when needed. Great vacation package, and good bonuses (if you are eligible).

    Cons

Very limited promotional opportunities. If you are fortunate, you will be in the select group of those who continue to move up the ladder. Most of the truly dedicated employees are ignored, and the talented ones leave within three years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To the new C-suite group, listen to the employees who are actually doing the work. Management will cover themselves; take the information in their "paper trails" with a grain of salt.

I have been working at FTI Consulting full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

    Flexible hours - Good Friends

    Cons

No bonus or increase of job duties unless you are part of the "click"
Employees receives no recognition. Shared Services questions are pass along to everyone. Never on the same page. All payments are paid late because management does not allow support
Managers mostly stand around gossiping about employees

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Become involved with your employees duties. Take classes to be more familiar with your department. Supervisor should fight for higher raises and bonus instead of taking all of it for yourself.
