Company is extremely micro-managed and the "culture" is not conducive for a healthy life style

Sales Representative, Trainer, Manager (Former Employee)
Philadelphia, PA (US)

I worked at Forest Labs full-time for more than 5 years

ProsGood salary - starting is 53k. Bonus varies from 2k - 14k. Company car.

ConsMicro-managing. Want everyone to be a puppet and fit the same mold. Pods are issues b/c some people don't work.

Advice to Senior ManagementTeach the managers how to let go of their micro-managing and employee retention may be better. Reps can think for themselves and have a true pulse of the territory, so let them do their job.

Great people, great products, Management stuck in past

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
New York, NY (US)

I have been working at Forest Labs full-time

ProsThe company is very savvy at selecting great products and great people in the marketing department. The atmosphere is friendly and focused on the work. Pay is somewhat above average but in line with NYC location. Incentive compensation (options, restricted stock) can be very rewarding if you stay long term.

ConsManagement does not allow a lot of new thinking and essentially is stuck in the past. This is the main problem at an otherwise solid company.

Advice to Senior ManagementEmpower executive directors and other middle brand management to really own their businesses and make decisions on their own.

They provide some good perks

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Forest Labs full-time

ProsThey had a technical 35 hour work week; although many worked more than that. Also in the summer they had half day fridays; you worked a little long monday to thursday but had a longer weekend.

ConsThe culture is changing they dont come across as caring about their people as they used to.

Advice to Senior ManagementA lot of people talk make it seem like they like you but then talk bad behind your back. Be aware of under the surface concerns.

Poor Pay and few growth opportunities

Administrative (Current Employee)

I have been working at Forest Labs

ProsGood benefits and vacation policy.

ConsDifficult to grow with the company and employees who are unprofessional are tolerated and accepted instead of forced into retirement.

Not too bad, not exciting either

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Jersey City, NJ (US)

I have been working at Forest Labs

ProsPay is level with industry. You do get more vacations for more years of service. Paid lunch time. Usually no overtime.

ConsUnless you enjoy your job function, you can be bored here, as the company culture is lacking spirit and fun. Pay is not so great considering the location (minutes from NYC where everything is expensive). Parking is expensive and not provided by company. No gym. Workload used to be very reasonable, but has doubled in recent years due to pressure of patent expiration. Depends on managers and groups, you may or may not be valued as an employee.

Advice to Senior ManagementImprove company culture to boost morale.

A tremendous company and a spectacular ride in career & rewards

Vice President, Officer (Current Employee)
New York, NY (US)

I have been working at Forest Labs

ProsForest Labs has great products, a stellar team, a bevy of new compounds coming to market in important categories where pay, benefits and career growth is possible for serious, dedicated team workers.

ConsThe company is undergoing great strains as it moves to a mature pharmaceutical company in a difficult market for sales at historical profitable levels. There will be a lot of turmoil in the next few years due to patent expiry in important products

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement needs to better communicate with employees and the public about strategy, position the business is taking, and change in the marketplace as it pertains to the business.

Great company, terrible IT department and management

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
New York, NY (US)

I have been working at Forest Labs

ProsGreat company to work for, provide good benefits and healthcare options, work life balance is great. CO seems like they have a good pipeline

ConsIT department is a total wreck. Both CIO and IT Corporate SVP lack integrity, effectiveness and honesty. No transparency. Management spends unnecessary budget to get the same or higher budget following years. Give too much business to friends and relatives.
It is also disappointing to see multiple internal fraud instances over last few years in IT but the top management culprits are not held responsible.

Great company, CEO, CFO are extremely bright but If you want to work for Forest, avoid Informatics department by all means.

Advice to Senior ManagementRemove CIO and SVP Corporate IT and directs. Appoint new CIO and IT management .Make the department better and there will be no negative impact to the company.
