Fun place to work, I was a Deli Associate and had a great manager who worked with you and alongside you as needed.

I worked at Fred Meyer part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Allowed employees to trade shifts with each other if you needed time off. Had a great crew and manager makes all the difference.

    Cons

Expect to work weekends like any retail place and no set schedule. Sometimes evening shifts, sometimes mornings no guaranteed amount of hours a week. Started out lower pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Enjoyed our management, even though I don't work there currently is nice to know I can go back. :)

Management is always changing so you constantly have to adjust to a new supervisor

I have been working at Fred Meyer

    Pros

Very good and stable work environment.

    Cons

Low pay raises, best negotiation is your first. The work load will get heavier with each passing year until it is absolutely necessary to expand and hire out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create a higher budget for expansion and raises.

    I worked at Fred Meyer

    Pros

The discounts are incredible. %10-20% off EVERYTHING in the store. Add that with a coupon, sale and bonus coupon & you've just saved a hundred bill. It's life consuming because they always make you want to come back. The only thing I don't buy at Fred's are the clothes, ironic that I work in the clothing department.

    Cons

The life to work ratio in my life is sad.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management can be pretty cruel at times, but if you work hard and rock a smile you'll do just fine.

I have been working at Fred Meyer full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Well taken care of in the pay department for being a grocery store.

    Cons

I have been working at Fred Meyer full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Steady work. Management is pretty decent about working with employees with limited scheduling availability. Pay is all right. Benefits even if you only work 20 hours a week.

    Cons

Constantly overworked and understaffed. A lot of the employees are dead weight. Promotions appear to be given based mainly on how much of a sycophant you are, not on any particular merit system.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop talking to employees like they are naughty children.

I have been working at Fred Meyer full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

My position is luckily the only store level Monday-friday position, with the ability to tweak your hours.

You get compensated for the mileage.

It's a fun job, very creative.

The in-store discounts are really good.

    Cons

Corporate level employees like buyers don't wish to speak to you directly, even though it is often said that employees can contact them directly.

Health insurance takes six months to receive and it takes two years to get your family covered.

Employees don't get a choice of what stores they are sent to.

No real mobility within the position.

Coworkers often get competitive over displays, however big or small.

    I worked at Fred Meyer

    Pros

flexible hours, great people to work with, management is awesome

    Cons

i don't know about other fred meyer stores but ours was frustrating if you had conflicts with other employees. i felt like no matter how hard i worked it wasn't recognized. the dress code was NOT inforced and we had many employees who felt showering was an option. literally we had a girl who would wear dresses over her work clothes?!!!! i brought up this problem with many other managers and the store director and nothing was done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

reward your employees who are willing to go above and beyond not the ones who feel it is an option to shower and roll into work 10 to 15 minutes late.

I worked at Fred Meyer part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The company is good and they hire from within. They provide adequate training and reward employees for hard work.

    Cons

The management doesn't listen to employees and picks favorites. Also, you HAVE to be part of the union, which is additional money out of your paycheck.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the employees. While working at Fred Meyer, I was able to be promoted within a year of employment. When new management came in, my hours were cut to the minimum and I was ignored until I had to leave because I couldn't pay bills. When I ran into the guy who was responsible for my cut hours a couple of months later, I was asked to come back because my former department was no longer passing inspections. I just told him that he should have listened to me.
