Current Employee – been working at GSI Commerce full-time for more than a year
Pros – Lots of excitement about the future of the organization, what the possibilities are with eBay and other eBay business units. Some great senior leaders have been hired in the last 12 months, you can see a difference in the strength of leadership. There are a lot of creative minds and the entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well!
Cons – Lots of work, long hours, but you feel like you're making an impact and really making a difference.
Advice to Senior Management – Continue to integrate with the rest of eBay, keep holding leaders accountable for delivery of results.
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Former Employee – worked at GSI Commerce full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Lots of room for expansion and growth. Industry leading processes and technology. Lots of great clients.
Cons – I don't really have anything bad to say about this company. The only thing i can say is they could stand to be up on the competition in terms of service offerings. Having branched out recently, i realized they were a bit behind on that end.
Advice to Senior Management – Make sure the people you are hiring are aptly qualified for management positions. Some "entry level" Supervisory roles were assigned undeserving there during my tenure in the operations area. Mostly assigned out of need for heads vs qualifying experience and skills.

Current Employee – been working at GSI Commerce full-time for less than a year
Pros – Offers a 3-day 4-day or 5-day schedule during non-peak. Can get ahead if you do not use your paid time off at all and volunteer every single time for overtime when it is opened. Voluntary time off is occasionally offered to select areas (not to all departments during the shift though). eBay purchased the company a few years back and while this is their first venture into fulfillment centers, eBay's longevity, experience, and reputation could help turn some of the negatives around.
Cons – There are so many, where to start? It should tell you something that temporary workers needed to be bussed in from 2+ hours away for the holiday season because the company can not find enough seasonal workers in the local market. The company has such a poor reputation here that temp workers not only say no to the assignment but run from it as fast as they can. You will work, and work hard while the supervisors and many team leads spend their time surfing the internet and doing nothing else but cracking the whip. There are production goals which aren't necessarily a bad thing, but when they are difficult if not impossible to attain on the days when pickers are given bad lists or packers get the shaft when given all the difficult to pack or time consuming items, it can be hard to keep your job, especially if you had the audacity to use your paid time off and aren't one of the favorites. There are different standards for different people, not just different positions. If you are a little old lady, you very likely have the cream of assignments and may not have production standards, instead spending the entirety of your shift in a support code. You will walk and go up/down stairs for approximately 10 miles per day. None of the work assignments place you in a position which is stress free or one which will help prevent injuries/strains/sprains. Instead, nothing is ergonomically designed or laid out. You will find heavy items placed in bins above your head, will bend and lift extremely heavy items from floor level repeatedly during your shift, bend/stoop to build boxes at knee level during your entire shift, stand in a curved position for 8-13 hours or build boxes on tables above chest height. You will stand, walk, and/or climb stairs for your entire shift. You are not permitted to sit down and do any portion of your job. Keep in mind you have productions standards ranging from 25 per hour for picking the dog food, large aquariums, cat litter etc to 650 per hour for scanning the next to impossible to scan SKUs and placing them on flying trays. Team leaders oversee production groups and are to be in production 80% of the time, spending their other 20% of the shift ensuring your team members are doing what they are supposed to be doing and that the work is coming in sufficiently and going out sufficiently to keep the other areas flowing smoothly as well. The team and team lead report to supervisors who don't do much of anything short of spending the shift talking to their pets. The supervisors report in to one ops manager who oversees the shift, and the 3 ops managers report in to one overall ops manager. Communication is severely lacking between the overall ops manager and all other levels of management as well as between the front line sales people and the warehouse staff. During the peak season, do not believe the temporary agencies when they tell you your assigned shift is only for certain days/times. You will be required to work 10 hour days, 7 days a week from late October to mid to late January with no time off. While pay is weekly for temporary associates, it is every other week for full timers. while suggestions for improvement are encouraged, if you speak up you are either brushed off or your ideas and suggestions are passed off as someone else's/
Advice to Senior Management – Some of the management layers can be eliminated, or assignments certainly reworked so they actually do some work during their shifts. Ensure communication between all levels who need to know the information, especially when it is pertinent to doing the job and meeting client service levels. Spend some time yourselves actually doing the various warehouse jobs for the entire shift, for the entire duration of the week at the production standard levels and see first hand how difficult it is to do the work because of the positions you have to contort to and other hinderances. When you have newbies who are excited about the company, don't shut them down; instead foster and flame that interest and excitement and help grow and develop that excitement within the newbie. Keep them engaged and maybe turnover will be reduced.

Current Employee – been working at GSI Commerce full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – You will receive a paycheck.
Free bagels on wednesdays.
Very large amounts of work.
Cons – More business management than there are developers.
Business management outnumbers developers in about an 8 to 1 ratio.
Extremely High Stress environment.
40-60 hour work weeks are pretty much guaranteed.
SLAs on everything (the way you are to meet them is to spend your own personal time).
Micro analysis of your time management (the overall assumption is you are wasting time).
Development is severely understaffed (cutbacks to the point of not being able to function).
Continual reorganization (a new boss every few months).
Continual process changes.
No training, no new technology, and worse no plan.
No focus on technology.
No ecommerce expertise.
Management is not transparent to clients.
No career path.
No team work.
No rewards or compensation for good work.
No adequate time to take time off as project work is never ending.
Often the least capable people get promoted to new positions.
The ecommerce products are built for the client with the fewest features.
The management believes their developers are incompetent.
Outsourcing is the new approach, so your job is continually on the line.
The Ebay aquisition has done nothing to improve the company.
Lastly, do not trust anyone, even your own boss.
Advice to Senior Management – Stop playing charades and bring people in who know what they are doing. You have noone in charge who has actually built an ecommerce site in their life.

Current Employee – been working at GSI Commerce full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Not much to consider....401k match with no vesting?
Cons – Where does one begin....The atmosphere, the people the ineptitude, the workload, the facilities, the product. I could go on and on but seriously do yourself a favor and read over the glassdoor reviews and read them well. This was absolutely the biggest mistake of my professional career because I said to myself all the people on this board have to be morons or crap workers but we aren't.
Advice to Senior Management – Get rid of the entire finance department, the entire IT department and perhaps you might have something here. Why Ebay doesn't simply poach the large customers and move this operation to San Jose is sad....these people are worthless.
