See a lot of interesting things every shift
Gain quantifiable experience for Law Enforcement Agencies (ie. Police, Corrections, Special Constables, CBSA, etc)

    Cons

    Union is not very good
Nickel and Dime you for every quarter hour
Tough to figure out what shifts are available
Scheduling department is not very smart, frequently screws screeners over with the gaps between shifts.

    Advice to Management

    Improve scheduling departments effectiveness.
Get a handle on the weekly budget CATSA provides you with.

    Pros

    Somewhat flexible shifts
Something interesting is always going on
Get experience that appears good on PAPER

    Cons

Left on same positions for long periods at a time
Management that appears to be unorganized & uneducated.
Management against their staff, this is a security industry... why are we not all working together?
No one can ever do anything right. Always something wrong with the work that your doing, even when your giving %110

    Advice to Management

Honestly, I enjoy my job as a screening officer (just the duties in itself)...
    However, the management is HORRENDOUS!
Their is no respect for staff... I do not think anyone understands the concept that if you respect your workers and appreciate them, they are much more likely to work harder because they want to make you happy.
The pay however is good, and that is the only reason you have people that make this job a career, because most are uneducated and have no other options. If you have your security clearance your basically in.
I have never been disrespected by so many managers, its really something that they get away with on a daily basis... favourites are picked, whether it depends on religion, gender, race or just group of friends and its sad that it just can't come down to good work ethic.
Everything within this company needs to be overhauled.

    Pros

Nothing. Stress is what you will get. Pay sucks. Benefit sucks. Union is useless

    Cons

Filthy place , rats and cockroaches, very smelly, no vent. Like the hood. Very low pay and disrespectful management

    Advice to Management

Useless. Just disappear. All of you. Replace management.

    Pros

The secured place, the scheduling is reasonable. You can work another job while your working there

    Cons

Long shift hours and the old condition of the trucks

    Advice to Management

Order new trucks, new uniforms, understand your employees

    Pros

Good entry level position with decent pay. Supervisor is doing her best to keep operations running smoothly. Fellow employees are willing to lend a hand. Major holidays off.

    Cons

Haphazard operations and overwhelmed management. The department had acquired another account and therefore the employees are overloaded with work. There is a shortage of uniforms so not everyone has one even though they are required.

    Advice to Management

Hire more employees to ease workload. Increase pay for the more senior employees.

    Pros

Just need a heart beat a clean record and no hope for the future and you to could work here.

    Cons

This is where hope comes to be buried. No communication, no ability to improve. Dead end job no advancement. No training. No hope. No future.

    Advice to Management

Invest in people. Security training shows employees matter. This is not a complicated job and pay is limited by the market and industry but there is no reason that this job cant be satisfying and enjoyable. Happy employees means happy customers wich means low turn over. Happy goes far beyond pay and benefits. Additude creates the culture. If employees were happy and satisfied, pay would not be a concern.

    Pros

General Camaraderie with coworkers. many site clients very reasonable to work with.

    Cons

Branch management treat staff poorly and not the assets they are. They have trouble answering phones and emails. Wages are poor and Union supports management over members as benefits are weak, i.e.-basic benefits, no sick days for illness or family issues, poor support, lack of proper uniforms and proper training.

    Advice to Management

Get your act together and try working with the staff instead of hiding at office.

    Cons

They were supposed to respect the my schedule of availability send each week
They send you 60 km away and do not pay km, call you when you're not available, and when you are they don't call you.
No advantage, treat you as number
Send you 50 km away for a 3 hrs shift

    Pros

Lets be completely honest all of the pros are dynamited away by all the cons.

    Cons

No leadership, vision, management with backbone, most managers more comparable to Mister Scrooge or the Grinch, no work-life balance (enjoy not knowing your families faces anymore), pay is godawful low, people get shot and killed, people get injured on the job often, safety organizations are fought off like the plague by Garda corporation, just like how they fight unions and good employees willing to speak out, worst of all no training or brotherhood in an industry that should be a career but is only a part timers haven.

    Advice to Management

You created the deplorable circumstances we are in on purpose. The constant turn over means that you have a fresh supply of uneducated bodies that you can sell you'r lies to. Lets be honest you have no will or want to create positive careers for drivers or guards, because you fear the change that they could bring.
