    I worked at Genentech

    Pros

I was able to grow and learn, be able to go to school on the company, to be able to move to better and greater position. Wonderful team work, also fun to work for Company and Team.

    Cons

My only con, is there isn't work-life balance, you are most times overwhelmed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen when your employee says they are overwhelmed and try to help them move to better fit for their skills.

I have been working at Genentech full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Work environment, everybody is here to support your career/personal growth. Positive spirit, strong organizational culture, innovation.
Excellent benefits: Health and Welfare, Time Off (especially the sabbatical), Long-Term Incentives (what company compensates you, LTIs, and then time off, sabbatical, for you to recharge and come back to make a bigger impact?). Very ethical and moral as they make decisions that affect the patients, communities, environment.
Support charitable contributions and community giving. Family oriented, flexible job schedule/arrangement.
My values align with its vision and mission where I can "work hard and play hard" while at the same time knowing that my hard work is a key to providing great medicine and enriching someone's quality of life.

    Cons

Since Im in a satellite office, I cannot meet more of my excellent colleagues.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep the top notch organizational culture that has differentiated Genentech and Roche for so many decades.

I have been working at Genentech full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Great work atmosphere
Singular focus on end results which is making medicines for people
    Casual dress code
Intense and directed work, able to see immediate results from contributions
Many tools to do your work
    Many amenities available

    Cons

Trying to maintain independence in spite of being a "subsidiary of Roche"
Manager's discretion in managing personnel, not always conducive or supportive for employees
    Not everyone is managed correctly

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to ensure you have skip level meetings so people can have input to upper levels without having to "go through the chain of command"

I have been working at Genentech full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Rich in resources. Everyone is top notch. There are many opportunities to do what you sincerely feel is most interesting to you and most impactful on patients w/in your skill set or stretch zone. They really take care of the employees in so many ways.

    Cons

There is a high bar for peer interaction. It can be challenging for Introverts on the commercial side. I'm not sure about the science or manufacturing side of the business.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Commercial needs to pick up on the entrepreneurial aspect of the Genentech Science culture. There is a little too much emphasis on doing what is safe versus doing what will truly knock the ball out of the park.
