Former Employee – worked at H&M part-time for less than a year
Pros – I enjoyed working with the different personalities and cultures. It was a fun job. Being at the F Street location was amazing because there was so much traffic and almost interesting sites to see! The management team was really laid back and fun to work with!
Cons – I don't really have anything bad to say about the company. I really enjoyed working here and would have definitely stayed if I did not have to move.
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Current Employee – been working at H&M as a contractor for more than 3 years

- the customers are mostly friendly and nice
- you receive discount on clothes
- during high school and university it is good job
Cons – - in the city stories it is a stressful enviroment, especially weekends
- if you can't keep up, you will be criticized by managers
Advice to Senior Management – - divide working tasks in a better way

Current Employee – been working at H&M full-time for more than 8 years
Pros – Great Benefits! Still a rapidly growing company.
Cons – District Management does not communicate with each other. More & more work with less & less resources. Only way to move up is suck up, lie or threaten to quit. Taking vacation or wellness is much harder then it should. Lost benefits many years in a row.
Advice to Senior Management – Start communicating with each other to avoid contradictions among team members. Stop promoting people that just started in the company & ignoring the line of Department Managers who are good enough to run the stores but never made Store Managers. Liars & backstabbers go to the front of the line.

Former Employee – worked at H&M part-time for more than a year
Pros – Meet great people, can get promoted fairly quickly, fashion-forward
Cons – Well I knew that this was "just a job" for me so I always felt empty. I like clothes and shopping, but being in the fashion world is not my passion. There were co-workers who loved being an advisor. For me is what just a pay check. I only worked weekend at a high traffic area and it was pandemonium every weekend. I would walk into the fitting rooms with clothes piled to the sky waiting to be "ran" back to the sales floor. Clothes on the floor every where and know matter how much I tried to work swiftly to make sure the sales floor was in decent order it always gets disheveled within moments. It was very frustrating for me and again not my industry. I lived, and learned, and left. :)

Current Employee – been working at H&M part-time for more than a year
Pros – Great pay for first job. Allows you to express your individuality. Great for earning experience. Great sales opportunities. Fun atmosphere at times.
Cons – First of all, the management in this store is HORRIBLE; not only do they play favorites, but they don't even know the store themselves, mostly the key holders and yes, the STORE MANAGER.
At least in the store that I am in, Rude prejudice comments are always being spread, even around customers. That's not something I would recommend anyone working with.
A lot of issues here, but I can only speak for my store. Everyone is leaving this store for the SAME reasons. Management needs to change.
Advice to Senior Management – Learn how to communicate better. Pitch in to help the store once in a while. Refrain from playing favoritism, if you like someone then talk to them outside of work. Don't Gossip about your employees. Not only is it unprofessional, but it is also wrong, and you will find yourself caught in your wrongdoings. Tell employees how they can improve themselves, and tell them when they are doing something wrong. When you change something, make sure you tell them in advance. Sales goals need to be said, we as employees shouldn't need to literally pull teeth to find out what the day sales goals are. Advancement is never expressed to employees unless we constantly ask.

Current Employee – been working at H&M full-time for more than a year
Pros – Fun, fast paced (albeit sometimes chaotic) work setting. Always plenty of work to be done, so boredom is never an issue. Inefficient employees don't tend to last more than a few months, while the strong work partners tend to be around for a long time. Promotions given out based on proven abilities and efforts , not brown-nosing or popularity. Incredible benefits and vacation/sick-time. Rad clothing at a decent discount. Management shows a great amount of trust in their staff, enabling an autonomy that is rarely found in the retail field. Vital sales/merch/company information provided weekly (and readily available to all staff) through comprehensive bulletin. Excellent communication and sales tools that allow staff to be directly involved in business. Company constantly opening new stores and expanding into new markets. (Nashville and Honolulu in the next couple months!)
Cons – Full time sales adviser hourly wage is a bit low. However , affordable and thorough health insurance plan makes up for it. Allotted payroll hours can sometimes prove to be a challenge when it comes to completing all expected tasks and routines.
Advice to Senior Management – Follow up daily to ensure tasks are completed and be sure to relay prioritization of tasks to staff. Make sure all staff is keeping updated on promotions, activities, etc. Ensure payroll hours are used in all the right places to allow for maximum efficiency. Be diligent in taking corrective action steps with employees who are not meeting expectations.
