I have been working at H&M full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

    Relatively easy work
People are amazing to work with
    Stylish products
Personal growth is slow at first but has been known to be faster than other retailers
Diverse range of customers are being handled
    Challenging at times but satisfying

I think the biggest pro of working at H&M would most definitely be the people you get to meet and work with, such inspirational management and focused team members of course there are those who lack focus but on the whole they future of the store is looking very bright and I can't wait to see how H&M will change retailing and shopping in Sydney.

    Cons

    Pay Rates for junior staff
    Lack of professionalism from management
    Poor attitude to staff turnover
    Serious misjudgement of various situations
Lack of organisation / too many people doing the job of one person

The main problem with H&M is the disregard of professionalism within both the sales floor and behind the scenes. When a company reinforces "Cup of credibility" and yet allows it's staff (both management and sales advisors) to act in a way that such "credibility" could be lost so easily, that's when people start to thing "oh yes this place isn't somewhere to be taken seriously" there's a difference between creating a fun environment and a unprofessional environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There's a line that management has to draw between being being professional and being "friends"

Treat your staff with a little more gratitude, essentially "bribing" your staff with assorted side benefits then telling them they should be grateful that they received such benefits does not do wonders for the image you're trying to convey to your own employees.

Acknowledge your staff and the reasons as to why they're leaving, you'd get a greater insight on what you're doing wrong to make so many people leave. Value and reward your staff based on their achievements not their age.

I have been working at H&M part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Great team members(well at least my store), great pay, very flexible scheduling, the ability to learn more about retailing because unlike most stores you're not just stuck in one position for an entire shift.

    Cons

The lack of growth opportunities but only when there aren't many stores in your area and people aren't leaving sup/mgr positions because they love H&M so much but if your willing to relocate the opportunities are endless and I plan on doing just that. The lack of hours but that's with any part time position in retail. And last but not least some of customers. Honestly, customers that trash the store and customers that come in with negative attitudes and refuse to be satisfied with anything are the only real cons.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    I worked at H&M part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

good place to start in retail as they tend to throw you in at the deep end and expect you to learn very quickly which pays off in the end, discount is great and there's always extra staff discount offers every few months and at christmas. season kick off is usually fun at central stores with lots of free food/booze! if you're a full-timer and want to commit 100% to retail they will usually help you work your way up if you express an interest in management/admin, salary in central london stores is great and they always offer overtime

    Cons

worked at 4 stores and 3/4 were always understaffed because of managers trying to save money (so not sure to blame managers or top boss here), main problem I experienced and heard from every other colleague there was that there isn't enough praise.. you do an excellent job all the time and it goes completely un-noticed, then one day you might be struggling because the shop floor is so busy/no staff etc and from then you're criticised.. that was a massive problem expressed by everyone I ever met there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

employing more staff in the stores that desperately need it would really help as these stores tend to be messy with un-shoppable floor stands continually throughout the day because the people that should be tidying are clearing, and the people that should be clearing are having to man the tills alone etc.
