Stable, flexible working but not as rewarding as it should be.

Systems Analyst (Current Employee)

I have been working at HSBC Holdings full-time for more than 5 years

Pros- flexible working, able to work from home once if not twice a week. Able to buy & sell holiday entitlement.
- good pension scheme
- relaxed working environment
- less redundancies than other banks
- most colleagues tend to be friendly

Cons- career progression can be extremely difficult, hard workers don't seem to be rewarded accordingly. Much a case of 'who's best friends with the boss'.
- bonuses around 8-10% for above average yearly performance.
- payrises can be paltry some years (try £100 annual payrise!)
- training has been an issue, external training budget non existent
- senior management don't seem to care too much about those who actually do the work

Advice to Senior ManagementOffer promotions to those who put in the hours and work hard. Pay more, you're seriously lagging behind.

Put your career in neutral

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at HSBC Holdings

ProsReally nice people, who aren't overly stressed out and realize that the minutiae details that most financial services companies flip out about, just aren't that important.

ConsManagement doesn't have a terribly clear direction. Terrible inefficiencies, and people lacking the ability to get things done.
