    Pros

Clean, Organized store, the managers are helpful. The customers are easier in a upscale facility. The wide variety of everything they offer is amazing and it is easy to help customers find what they are looking for.

    Cons

Scheduling requirements and constantly cutting workers hours weekly to meet those requirements. Competitive wages for grocery stores, but still isn't very much money.

    Pros

Good work hours, great pay for me, works with your availability. Not too much stress. My store is great to me. Management in my store is kind.

    Cons

Biggest, being understaffed often, especially on weekends. I sometimes don't like the on-calls.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't be too cheap. My store has a high turnover rate, so try to retain employees. Try to higher college folks and beyond. Some high school kids are somewhat lazy to work hard.

    Pros

Management is nice, good about giving your requested time off. They work around my college schedule.

    Cons

Managers don't respond to your request can make for difficult situations with customers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Schedule more front end management to help the cashiers. And hire baggers if you want us to go faster.

I have been working at Harris Teeter part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The store I work at has a very relaxed environment, friendly staff that I can call my friends and almost like family. All wonderful people, except for one crazy annoying guy. Decent start pay for high schoolers and college kids with half year bonuses depending on how well your store does over all which is pretty cool.

    Cons

Seems a bit hard to progress up the ladder, seems like it's more about who you know as well as work preformance. So for hard working introverts, it will be hard.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Honestly nothing bad to say. Except at times I've had a manager come across condescending which pissed me off.

I worked at Harris Teeter part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Incredibly simple job. No complicated tasks, just strict time limits for everything i.e. all bakery products must be baked, cooled, packaged, documented, and put out on the floor by a specific time in the morning. There are manuals and binders that include every recipe, every product number, shelf life for every product, etc. The job really doesn't require much more than common sense, time management skills, and the willingness to be treated horribly by customers and still smile.

    Cons

    - Highly disorganized. Highly. Disorganized.
    - The required training videos are patronizing at best (we all know how to wash our hands) and will not prepare you for the actual job you do.
    - Rules govern everything down to how high you're allowed to stack pans.
    - At Harris Teeter I met the most unprofessional, backstabbing group of managers I had ever seen. I'm sure this varies from store to store.
    - Teamwork is nonexistent.

I got a strong impression that the company is incredibly fearful of lawsuits.

I was told that I was being groomed for a management position and was also offered a full-time position soon after I started. I declined the full-time position and left the job. I don't think anyone could have convinced me that staying with Harris Teeter and advancing within the company would have been worth the time spent there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Make training hands-on and relevant
    - Introduce teamwork aspects to the work environment
    - Require at least some level of character, respect, and responsibility from your managers
    - You are a grocery store. None of your employees are falling for your "golden opportunity at Harris Teeter" façade.

I have been working at Harris Teeter part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Flexible schedule, good company overall with great benefits for full time. Part time benefits after 60-90 days but only dental and vision which doesn't work for someone with children or seeking more.

    Cons

Benefits are not great for part time, once hired, you see how disorganized they really are (depending on your store). Not enough employees therefore managers are overworked and stressed constantly. Management says there is room to move up but they know it won't happen, very disappointment for someone looking to grow with company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't give false hope in interviews and if someone tells you the department or area they are better in, placing them elsewhere may not ever be the right fit. Maybe be ok to keep looking for suitable candidates. Offer more advancement to employees within that show interest in moving up
