    Cons

Always busy, Ask a lot of their employees, Can underpay in some roles but getting better, Still a few poor mid level managers around.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

On the right track - Keep going. Positive cultural change around restructures via removing some under-performing individuals.

I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

HP is trying to return to its former glory but has along way to go. HP has a wide range of products and services it can offer customers across most countries in the world. Support staff are dedicated to helping customers.

    Cons

Unfortunately the legacy of Mark Hurd lives on. HP continues to reduce staff benefits and deny pay rises in spite of internal PR extolling the benefits of working at HP. The focus on reducing costs impacts staff's ability to be successful. Working from home policy is an expensive way to reduce costs. Internal tools and systems are antiquated and expensive to run & maintain. Internal infighting due to narrow focus on cost allocation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to consider the impact to customers and staff before making changes. Experienced staff should be consulted for advise more often. Focus more on improving internal tools & systems and let staff run the business. Bring back company wide profit sharing to enable more internal cooperation.

Varied. No real career options while the main focus is cost cutting through offshoring and layoffs

I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Large company, very diverse
    Some good products and services
Current board making some headway in recovery

    Cons

Lack of recognition, don't expect any pay rises. The most a top-line performer can expect is around 2% bonus in a good year. Have a team Christmas function (for example), but pay for it yourselves. Lousy.
HP talks the talk but doesn't deliver when it comes to looking after its employees. Hasn't for the past several years, probably never will

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is a distinct lack of interest in senior management increasing productivity / company fortunes through staff morale. Big mistake

I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Absolutely nothing was redeeming about HP

    Cons

Boys culture of butt covering and ineffectiveness. Best thing that ever happened was Mark Hurd leaving.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Go back to basics of what made HP great.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Work life balance. The team. Iconic company. New executive team is handling the challenges of the changing tech world well.

    Cons

The usual big company problems - coming up to speed in a new area, having to find out (and explain to colleagues) the process to get things done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep the course, Meg is doing well, a lot better than "slash and burn" Mark Hurd.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    - Work-life balance
    - People generally collobrate quite well at work level

    Cons

    - Pretentious HR and management practices to give employees the delusion of the company's effort in looking after their career, development and compensation
    - So called training are patch of training modules uploaded online and self served. Quarterly training with topics totally useless, more aiming for ticking HR check list than adding real value to employees. Not even willing to pay for professional conferences and training outside
    - Management great at delivering mixed messages: e.g. never scarfice quality over cost saving. End result: outsourced work to cheaper locations and hire people on the cheap, ending up lowering efficiency and quality of output. Need R&D but cutting R&D budget...
    - Lots of people with deep experience because so many people are in their comfort zone and stay in the company for many many years due to flexible hours and relax attitude in the work place, thus not motivatd in pursuing career advancement or change. Career advancement is lacking within the company anyway.
    - Not as innovative as it used to be. (that's why deleted the word "Invent" from the corporate logo...) Missed the chance to compete with other upcoming IT companies and now impossible to catch up

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't need to do employee survey every year to ask why people are not satisfied with the company. Think and feel in their shoes and you will know why.
The lack of corporate leadership and winning strategy also make this place a demoralising place to work. Where can the company goes after no more cost and head count cutting can be done? What great products do we have in the pipeline to beat our competitors? There is nothing to be prond of being the market leader in a shrinking market...
Stop pretending you will do something about the dissatisfaction by just having fake discussions before and after the survey and then following it up with some half-ass action to make it looks like you try to change. It only serves for people to see you are doing all these to tick the to-do list for HR and upper management rather than really care.

I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great products, amazing people, strong sales and marketing strategies, good work-life balance

    Cons

Bureaucratic culture, too internally focused, too slow to respond to market trends, silo operated

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend more time listening to what's required to make a success of the business and less time selling internally up the food chain, be more agile and remember good talent is hard to come by, reward effort appropriately and celebrate successes
