    Cons

Salary structure for non-revenue generating staff definitely needs to be reviewed.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    * Largest IT company in the world. Recognised name.
    * If you are in Sales, gets you an appointment with customers easily.
    * Career progression opportunities

    Cons

I have worked at HP for more than 10 yrs. It was a brilliant company to work for but has declined significantly over the last few years. 3 CEOs with different strategies have been tried without any success. When Meg took over, she came up with a strategy of leveraging the breath of HP's offering to win more business. 2yrs into this strategy, she has decided to split the company into 2. So very confused management and nothing they do seems to work. They have heavily invested in Sales and the entire backend is broken since all good people who used to work in operations have quit due to no pay rises or appreciation. Result is a very political organisation where its become impossible to service customers - so even the sales force now is not able to make any commissions! Last few years have been a painful experience as an employee and its getting worse every day. I would not recommend anyone to join HP atleast in the next couple of years. Many employees have been hired recently and let go during probation period not because of performance but mainly because the company decided to re-structure which they keep doing every 3 months!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please fix the backend so that Sales reps can concentrate on selling. Also, please stop restructuring! Any new idea or change takes time to bring results. Be patient and let people settle down so that they can concentrate of their work and not always worry about their jobs!

    Work hard to get results

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great people and teams to work with, some free parking based on the office that you work at.

    Cons

Unpaid overtime is a given, online training is poor, do not assume a pay rise by taking on additional responsibilities or moving up to the next level. Be prepared to BYO stationery as the company does not have stationery cupboards which cost $$$ to stock. Lots of governance and bureaucracy. Travel is very restricted (except for big bosses).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remove redundant layers of management, recognise the workers rather than non-achievers.

I worked at Hewlett-Packard as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Was allowed to work autonomously. Great rate of pay as a contractor.

    Cons

Sometimes support to contractors is a bit lacking with a feeling of not really belonging to HP.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide better support to contract staff.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Culture, People, Career Opportunities, Reward for effort, Training & Development, Recognition, Flexibility. A great place to work with a lot of good people. Exciting products and interesting and challenging work.

    Cons

Always busy, Ask a lot of their employees, Can underpay in some roles but getting better, Still a few poor mid level managers around.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

On the right track - Keep going. Positive cultural change around restructures via removing some under-performing individuals.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

HP is trying to return to its former glory but has along way to go. HP has a wide range of products and services it can offer customers across most countries in the world. Support staff are dedicated to helping customers.

    Cons

Unfortunately the legacy of Mark Hurd lives on. HP continues to reduce staff benefits and deny pay rises in spite of internal PR extolling the benefits of working at HP. The focus on reducing costs impacts staff's ability to be successful. Working from home policy is an expensive way to reduce costs. Internal tools and systems are antiquated and expensive to run & maintain. Internal infighting due to narrow focus on cost allocation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to consider the impact to customers and staff before making changes. Experienced staff should be consulted for advise more often. Focus more on improving internal tools & systems and let staff run the business. Bring back company wide profit sharing to enable more internal cooperation.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Large company, very diverse
    Some good products and services
Current board making some headway in recovery

    Cons

Lack of recognition, don't expect any pay rises. The most a top-line performer can expect is around 2% bonus in a good year. Have a team Christmas function (for example), but pay for it yourselves. Lousy.
HP talks the talk but doesn't deliver when it comes to looking after its employees. Hasn't for the past several years, probably never will

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is a distinct lack of interest in senior management increasing productivity / company fortunes through staff morale. Big mistake

    Cons

Boys culture of butt covering and ineffectiveness. Best thing that ever happened was Mark Hurd leaving.
