My manager is awesome and and this company is the total opposite of where I came from. There is no micromanaging here and I have GREAT co-workers. Career growth and movement to other areas of interest are encouraged.

    Cons

Not all positions are work from home.

    I worked at Humana full-time

    Pros

Good compensation. Training provided is very good. So many smart and talented people to learn from. Very upfront and clear regarding your job functions, as well as how your success will be assessed.

    Cons

As with any large company there are issues with upper management communicating effectively with employees. There is constant change and most adapt, however sometimes you are not told why things are changing which breeds suspicion and rumors.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate long range goals to employees. It does not have to be specific. Acknowledge changes at a minimum. It doesn't need to be anything more than that. By doing so employees will not be so prone to fire up the rumor mill.

I worked at Humana full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great work-life balance, allowed for personal growth.

    Cons

It's truly about who you know. If you work at Humana you need to make sure you network within the company if you would like for your career to grow. If you are not an outgoing person, you more than likely will get looked over when it comes to being promoted.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the worker bees. More times than not, their experiences are a true reflection on how well lower management is functioning.

I worked at Humana full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

great company to work for. The atmosphere is a family one, work was fun.

    Cons

Some managers did not effectively manage

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The advise would not be about benefits, nor salary. I would advise Humana to take a closer look at their managers. The managers in that department are in a "click" and if you're not in the club your life is made hard. That's just not right, other that the company overall is a good company.

    Pros

Work atmosphere is very positive and you're surrounded by good people. There are plenty of opportunities throughout the company for personal growth.

    Cons

There can be a lot of red tape to get the things that you may need to do your job. Because the company is so large, internal changes happen very slowly.

I have been working at Humana full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good hours, work at home advantage, excellent coworkers

    Cons

Cannot get promoted. Its a who you know basis of moving up the ladder, Education is not considered. If you are a great worker, count on staying in the same spot forever.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look at who is doing the work, who is proving themselves, who speaks volumes for the company. Just cause Janey likes Tommy is not a good basis for moving someone up the ladder
