Good if there is nothing more out there available

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
San Diego, CA (US)

I have been working at Hyatt full-time for more than 3 years

ProsEmployee comp rooms
Friendly atmosphere
Family oriented
Diverse
1,000 per year educational reimbursement
Employee cafeteria has lots of options

ConsSenior managers who have been in their position too long who refuse to change and be innovative
Hard or impossible to get promoted unless you are part of the wolf pack or a managers buddy. It is also hard to transfer to another department even when you are the best person for the job. They will hire a friend or someone they like even if the person is not qualified for the job.
Rude and fake HR managers
Low pay even though they think they are matching the job market
Managers out to get employees if they dislike them
Senior management is paranoid this hotel will go union

Advice to Senior ManagementGet rid of managers that are bad apples and making quality employees leave
Listen to employees
Hire from within and look for great talent that is being hidden by bad managers

Meh... ok for a short term job not what I would personally consider long term Career...

Security Officer (Former Employee)
Koloa, HI (US)

I worked at Hyatt full-time for less than a year

ProsGood pay, everyone is friendly because they get paid to be. The values seem to be in the right place but in reality it's the middle/lower class serving the upper class and there's a certain sense of envy/hostility which is normal in those circumstances.

ConsGossip, gossip, gossip, seems like everyone thinks the other department has it out for them. Some of the management has a hard time building rapport with customers and employees alike and are very impersonable. It's very much who you know and not what you know. I was a 4yr college grad working for a guy that dropped out of highschool and couldn't spell high school. Under qualified workers being promoted into positions that they can not possibly grow into or are even right for. Very good pay for a younger person but I couldn't see supporting a family on it.

Advice to Senior ManagementLess micromanagement, more opportunities for people with higher education.

A loving company

Intern (Former Employee)
Chicago, IL (US)

I worked at Hyatt full-time for less than a year

ProsIt is an incredible work experience. Everyone is truly caring and very nice. The company is also, for the most part, genuinely interested in making their employees happy. That's why we have all the room comps and happy hours!!

ConsPay isn't the best and for some, the work environment may be too relaxed. There is no sense of urgency.
