Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Interstate Bakeries full-time for more than 7 years

ProsThe salary was the best part of the job.In the long run it was probably one of the factors of going out of business.

ConsLong hours and management never listened to driver suggestions to make things run smoothly. All the money spent on big wigs and nothing was ever fixed.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Pride & Greed Comes Before The Fall

Route Sales Representative (Former Employee)

I worked at Interstate Bakeries full-time for less than a year

ProsLearned a great deal there.

ConsThey closed their doors for good. Both management and the unions were fanatically at odds. Management dissipated countless opportunities to turn things around. In the end the misguided baker's union, led by a few old school union brass, brought the entire company down. It was a pity. The products were still great.

Not recommended for the average person

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Interstate Bakeries

ProsA great place to work for people with limited education or mental abilities, good compensation and benefits

Custodians and cashiers get paid $17 an hour

ConsUnion culture, senority rules, work performance does not reap any benefits, limited advancement opportunities.

You can come to work on time everyday and do a great job or you can slack off take long breaks, call out, and have a better paycheck than the dummy that does everything right.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf there is any way possible to rid the company of all union agreements, please do so... (it is impossible to have a performance culture)

Prossalary and health benefits, most holidays off. the pay is very good but you do have to work hard for the money. It has a union .

Consno sick days. long hours. hot in the summer. most trucks have no A/C. IBC has been in bankruptcy for the last 3 yrs and still has not pulled out of it.
