    Pros

    I really enjoyed my time with the company, the discounts were great, job was fun and the majority of the customers were fun to work with.

    Cons

    Hourly salaries were low and it took a lost of push to increase individual salaries very minimally, management oftentimes didn't bond/communicate with associates as much as they should have, sometimes overnight shifts.

    Advice to Management

    Recognize and promote your driven employees, less cliques among management would be nice.

    Cons

    - Depending on your location, customers can be an issue. I've worked at J.Crew both on the East and West coasts. I love working in the city location on the East Coast because it is constantly busy and the customers, for the most part, are friendly and fun to work with. I dreaded coming to work in the suburban location on the West Coast. The customers were rude and only concerned with discounts. Because there wasn't much foot traffic in the store, managers and stylists often stole customers from associates.
    - I like that they keep track of our sales stats (how much we've sold, units per transaction, average dollar sale, what % of your sales were markdowns) to keep everyone accountable. However, they also pressure and push you to make your sales goal, and make you feel bad if you don't reach it. - They used to do commission for sales associates, but took that away. So there's a little less incentive to work as hard to earn sales.
    - On a busy day, certain managers will keep pushing back your break, then before you know it, it's the end of your shift and you haven't taken a break.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to your employees' needs and don't steal sales. You're supposed to be a resource to stylists and associates, not their competition.

    Excellent discounts for employees. Management is responsive if you are upfront about what you need.

    Cons

    The company did away with employee commission. Scheduling is done only a week in advance. Too many "on call" shifts. Managers are often unhappy and can be condescending, but that is the nature of retail. Also, if you are in need of more than part time work, there is very little opportunity for more hours.

    Pros

    One of the few retail stores that have a great culture of putting employees first. Also the employee discount goes a long way

    Cons

    As with retail, it can be hard to be scheduled normal hours and keep a good lifestyle-work balance.

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing what you're doing! A good mix of seasoned and new employees keeps the environment fresh and gives new insight
