    Pros

Decent pay and benefits, most people are great and fun to work with, good vacation time. The people are the best part of that place and I met a lot of great ones there. Some have become close friends of mine.

    Cons

Summers can get really hot. Very high stress environment. Constant push to do more and more and more with the feeling that sometimes no matter what it will never be good enough. Incentive programs are not fairly balanced. Some areas can easily get tons of it with little effort while other areas can work to the point of exhaustion and not come close.

    Advice to Management

Realize that people have lives outside of the shop and that we are not machines you can turn on and off as you please. Stop hiring managers off the street to teach them everything about a business they know nothing about when there are highly experienced hourly employees that can fill their shoes easily. Even out the incentive programs. (see cons section)

    Cons

Ambiguity of direction from Senior Leadership, one week it is do this, the next week it is something different

    Advice to Management

Understand your decisions before pushing them on your team.

    Pros

Have a paycheck. Can't think of anything else.

    Cons

Low pays, outdated procedures, no focus on employees, no development/training opportunities. No career growth. Location.

    Advice to Management

Treat employees nice, be more people focused.

    Pros

The benefit package at Jeld-Wen is very good. It is also used as a tool to keep hourly employees base wages as low as possible.

    Cons

Jeld-Wen does not pay their employees what they are worth. Expectations are very high and as the workload grows for everyone, the pay stays fairly stagnant.

    Advice to Management

There is a huge disconnect between upper management and the hourly employees. Every department seems to be under staffed but management will not "approve" the hiring of new employees.

  7. consistently promising to have the worker's welfare in mind, but not delivering

    Pros

They allow you to earn vacation pay

    Cons

If you quit, are fired, retire, or are laid off before December 31 of a given year, you don't get paid for any vacation pay earned in that year for the next year

    Advice to Management

pay out vacation pay to employees who terminate or are terminated for the vacation they have earned in that year.

    Pros

Some good, well intentioned people still work there.

    Cons

    3 CEOs in 4 years
Owned by Wall Street investors who have gutted most of the company and only care about getting their money back, not the fact that they're going to be selling off a company that will be completely dysfunctional to the next owner.

    Advice to Management

Being the biggest jerks in the room with the biggest paychecks doesn't make you the smartest people in the room.

    Pros

Co-workers are like my family. I spend more time with them than I do my own, sadly.

    Cons

The list is long. I don't know a single employee that I work with who likes his/her job. It is a miserable place. Over worked and underpaid is an understatement here! Management does not care about the health, safety and welfare of the employees whatsoever. It is all about the numbers. Hours are too long (12 hr shifts) with a half hour lunch break. Imagine being on your feet for that long, making wages that just get you by from month to month and spending minimal time with family and friends because you are miserably tired on your days off.

    Advice to Management

Read the cons. Overworked, tired and unhappy employees get injured on the job more often. Pay more, value the employees and hire more employees so one person doesn't have to do the work of two (or three).
