I have been working at JR Simplot

    Pros

As usual, most of the people actually getting work done are competent and likeable.

    Cons

People in management who are more about tossing around the hot potato, than handling it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management is a skill and talent like any other. Just because someone is likeable and technically competent, does not mean s/he can solve people problems or mentor human growth.

    I worked at JR Simplot

    Pros

Family atmosphere among workers in the field.

    Cons

Less and Less caring about the people who do the work by management. They promote a lot of people into positions of authority that are not capable of that type of responsibility. The say, they promote the incompetent to get them out of the way so the real workers can get the job done, is pretty standard.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn who does the work who puts money in your pocket. Without the workers putting in all the hours and sacrifices they do for their jobs to keep you going, you would not have a company. Mr. Simplot would be ashamed to know his company has come to more money focused rather than people focused.

    Pros

    Job security
    pay is good
    top of the industry

    Cons

good ol' boys club, slow pace, very reactionary, very little room to move up. Slow to embrace technology. poor vacation time,

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be honest about hiring external hires over internal hires. Vacation time is really low. The company is fine with us staying in the same position for 25 years, today's culture is not accepting of that.

    Pros

The management knows what they are doing and it shows.
The benefits are solid and they treat their employees great.

    Cons

The locations of the business are not what I'd call ideal if you're a big city type person.

I worked at JR Simplot full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The pay and benefits are pretty decent and most of the worker bees are good to work with. The dynamic between the downtown headquarters and the divisions is strained though.

    Cons

The work environment is very political and people are simply out for themselves. Don't look for any support from management either as there is none. Headquarter to division relationships are not good, so don't look for any support from HQ. Watch your back at the Food Group, as it's extremely political and you need to be aligned with the right people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ditch the political bantering. Promote a better working culture and less ladder climbing morons.
